The radio operator at Halifax Harbor had heard the distress call at 2:10 in the morning of December 20th.  "This is the Cassandra Rose.  SOS.  All ships respond.  Three hundred miles south of Green Island Light.  This is the Cassandra Rose.  SOS.   All ships respond. "  Over and over, in and out, the taped distress message of the Cassandra Rose kept playing, until just before daybreak, when the signal was no more.
