13. Complications [5/6]

So he told me everything about him as we drove to school. He had gotten his mind reading power since last year and he can only read minds of people from the school

"I found that really weird cause I thought the mind reading power applied to everyone," he told me.

Then he told me his zodiac sign, birthday, and etcetera.

"You're supposed to be telling me secrets or desires, not your life details!" I whined.

Seth lifted one eyebrow and said, "Well, they're a bit…satanic…"

I frowned. "Your secrets and desires are connected with the devil?"

"No I just meant a bit…evil. Not nice," he said,

My frown intensified. "What's so evil about me reminding you of your mom?"

"Nothing! It's just," he sighed, "I prefer not telling people personal things like this."

"For Pete's sake, you sound like something out of a Shakespeare play! Just shoot!" I snapped.

"That's not exactly the reaction I wanted but alright," he said disapprovingly. "You remind me of my mom because of your spirit."

"My spirit? What about my spirit?"

"Your mood swings, the way you talk, the way you interact with others."

"But your mom's dead, how can you exactly know her spirit?!" I didn't want to make it sound offensive but it came out all spiteful.

"Well I just." He took his eyes off the road as he slammed on the brakes and turned around to face me. "I just hear her voice once in a while. Her ghost comes to me during the night and talks. Sometimes she's moody, sometimes she's sad and etcetera.

"Like once it was her death anniversary and she was furious at Masumi for killing her so when she talked to me that night, she was snapping at me for being all happy." He paused and grinned and continued talking, "I was really happy that night because that was the first time I kissed a girl." He smiled mischievously at me.

I frowned, not understanding what he meant. Then an image of Seth kissing me in the tree house popped up in my mind.

"Oh, you mean our first kiss," I grinned and laid my head on his shoulder.

He put his hand around me, and pulled me closer to him as he said, "I better get back to the original topic. So my mom frequently," he paused to find the right word, "-haunts me to and she's just like you."

"How long has she been 'haunting' you?" I asked, making fake quotation marks in the air.

"My whole life. She's also the reason for my 'face changing' as you call it. You know how I told you that you remind me of her?"

I nodded.

"Well sometimes, you get on my nerve by acting too much like her and that's when I act all…bad. The real me is this soft side… I know it sounds stupid but-"

I stopped him by putting one finger on his lips.

"Seth, it's okay. I understand. I'll try not too remind you too much of her. You probably don't like Jean too much because she loved Masumi." I tried calming him down.

He removed his arm from around me and started playing with my hair. My finger was now away from his mouth and he had time to talk.

"You know, ever since I really got to know you, my life's been really chaotic," Seth whispered in my ear.

"In a good way or bad way?" I asked, going along with his stupid game.

"Bad way," he said after a few minutes of silent thinking.

I punched him playfully and stared at the car keys.

"Do you really want to go to school today?" I asked him.

Seth shook his head.

"Neither do I. Let's go!" I pulled out the car keys and got out the car.

"Let's go as in drive, right?"

I shook my head no as he walked to my side.

"I meant teleport, dummy!" I said, shaking my head at the boy's stupid ness.

The next minute I was back home.

The End
