I was holding a ridiculous amount of shopping bags when I saw it.
"Raphael, look!" I hissed, gesturing towards the glinting treasure.
He raised an eyebrow.
"It's a coin. Rolling towards us."
"Exactly!" I shot back, "It's good luck!"
Raphael muttered something about me being a cheapo, but I was too focused to pay him any mind.
It was coming closer at an alarmingly fast rate. My hands were full, but if I reached out my foot -
I let out a grunt of effort. It was further to my left than I had expected.
"Getting a good stretch?" Raphael asked, looking down at me with amusement in his eyes.
I pulled a face at him from where I had sunken into a split, but was quickly filled with glee when I found that I had caught the coin against my foot.
"I got it!"
I looked at him with annoyance.
"Can't you take some of these bags?"
"Do I have to?" he asked with mock pride.
"It's all your shopping!" I huffed, dumping them on the floor and grabbing the coin.
Raphael went about picking up the bags as I turned it over in my palm. It was incredibly shiny, and I wondered briefly who had been unfortunate enough to drop it.
"People are staring, Kate."
I rolled my eyes and got to my feet, putting the coin in a pocket.
"Let's go eat. I'm starving."
I'd been back at my apartment when I remembered the coin. I reached into my pocket, but the smooth metal didn't meet my hands. I turned all of my pockets out, finding nothing more than dryer lint.
I'd lost it. Raphael was never going to let me live it down, either.
Where will it be next?
