Those words pounded her like a heavy hammer. Part Unnatural? That was like the death sentence! Kayla felt bitter tears brim her eyes. If it couldn’t get worse, her life just went from bad to terrible. Everything just landed into the bottom of the hole.
“You’re a liar!” She screamed as tears rolled down her face, this couldn’t be true. After all these years and she’s not completely human? That every bully that ever laughed in her face was right? That she really was nothing more that dirty scum too worthless to live in this world? It couldn’t be!
“I wouldn’t say if I were you. It’s not proper to accuse people who are risking their lives to save you of being a liar.”
“Why should I believe you? I don’t even know you!”
“Calm down Kayla. You need to gather yourself. While you don’t know me, I know who you are.” He said, grabbing her and stared deep into her eyes. “I’ll show you something.”
Kayla twisted out of his grasp.
“What?” She eyed him coldly.
He closed his eyes and let out a sigh. Slowly, his dark hair began growing out, turning a lighter fiery orange that almost matched Kayla’s and he became taller. He was still wearing the same black clothes. He opened his eyes revealing two bright red cat eyes.
“I’m an Unnatural. Now can you trust me?”
Kayla stared at him. The orange hair, the red eyes. He was a fire demon. It took her a moment before she realized that a fire demon was actually standing in front of her, completely exposed, waiting for her to respond.
Kayla nodded quietly and watched him turn back to his human self.
“Now I think you best go home.” He said, looking slightly drained.
Kayla nodded numbly again.
“Thanks.” She muttered before she turned and ran off. Her mother was going to have a lot of explaining to do that night.
