Elizabeth stared at the screen in the Tesseract, and pondered the sequence that had been frozen in time. It showed Jason's reaction when he discovered that she had been transferring information from Swapna into her own mind.
If Murali's idea worked, he would be able to stop transmission between the testing room and Jason's monitoring system. Elizabeth would be able to finish downloading Swapna's information without Jason knowing anything about it.
Then she would be able to escape from P7, and not be sent to the campus at all. There would be no Daria to blow the head off of, there would be no circle of students to capture Murali, Anya and herself. There would be no threat of being frozen.
She stood in front of the screen with a deep frown on her face. She didn't even notice when Liz, Beth, Murali and even Anya joined her at the screen.
"What if your idea works, Murali?" Elizabeth turned to face him directly.
"What if Jason doesn't stop the download, what if I use that information from Swapna to escape? Where do I go,? My existence was erased when I didn't join the agency. I wouldn't even have you to help Murali, because I had just met you, and you seemed happy where you were. You would never have joined a conspiracy against Jason, back then. I would never have met Anya or Daria, either.
Murali's frown matched her own.
"That's true, but we have to do something. We can't stay in this Tesseract forever. My idea will work, we just have to get the timing right."
Anya stepped quietly forward.
"I was happy at the campus. I didn't see it as a prison the way you did, Elizabeth. I went there by choice, to learn. I was able to use my mind to its' full potential. If Jason had evil plans for all the Smart Ones, none of us knew about it. Whatever the rest of you do, I want to go back to the time before I met Elizabeth. I want to be happy, I don't want to be part of a conspiracy anymore. "
Liz put her arm around Anya's shoulders to comfort her. She was almost in tears by this time. She was the one person of this group that hadn't wanted to escape the campus, she had just got caught up in all the drama. In a way, she was collateral damage, an innocent bystander.
"If Murali's plan works, that is exactly what will happen for you, Anya. You will never meet Elizabeth or Liz or myself." Beth explained.
"Well if that's the case, let's work on Murali's plan." Anya smiled for the first time since they had escaped from the campus.
"What about me?" Elizabeth interjected. "Where will I go? What will I do?"
She glanced over at Beth, who had a wry grin on her face.
"If you say "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn," I'll slap you!"
"You got me, that's exactly what I was thinking. There certainly is a downside to matching wits with myself."
Liz turned away from the screen, which she had been watching closely.
"Not to worry, Elizabeth. Remember what I told you when we first met? I am from an alternate plane of reality where I chose door number two. Beth is from another plane yet again, twenty years from 2009. We can change your own reality without changing anyone else's. "
"Do you mean you can put me on a plane of reality where I still have my own family, and friends? If I go to that reality, what happens to the Elizabeth that is already there?"
"Well, you're just a gleaming ball of fiery fun, aren't you?" Murali said sourly.
"Every solution we come up with, you shoot down. Obviously all of us have to think everything through before we do anything."
