Chapter 3: Moment of Nutso InsanoMature

Charles's mouth seemed to have forgotten how to shut. It was obvious that he was not expecting this outcome at all.
"You... you're kidding right?" he asked, perplexed. "You're just setting me up. You're lying."
"I am a man of my word. I will take special precautions, yes, but I do believe that you will become an asset to us," Elric responded calmly, locking his eyes with the werewolf's.
Charles wouldn't believe it. He took a step back. "Lies! I will not be fooled!"
"Charles! They're letting you go, as long as you help the heroes fighting Xeranad. What's wrong with you?" Aria wasn't as baffled as he was, but she couldn't get why he was reacting this way.
Reading her mind, Click answered, "He's been feared and attacked by humans for most of his life, I assume. He's learned not to trust anybody by now because of that. I'd be surprised if he wasn't, really."
Fujitsu piped up, trying to twist his head to get a good angle of everybody. "Don't worry, we won't hurt you. Unless you hurt us. Then we'll consider hurting you." Cue dumb smile.
All Charles could do was shake his head and look around him. At the prince, who was looking at him with sympathy, at the guards, who were glaring at him, at Aria, who looked at him with soft, trusting eyes, at the guards again, who were staring with burning hatred at him. He smirked.
"Oh, but you want me dead, don't you?" he called out to the soldiers. "You'd rather skewer me right here, before I hurt anybody else. Who said that I was going to help you guys out, anyway?"
There was a cold silence lingering in the air for a while; one of the guards broke the silence and took a couple of steps forward.
"You're right, we do want you dead. We do want to kill you before you kill anybody else." He paused. "But I respect and trust His Majesty with all my might. If he believes that you can help us, then I will stand aside and let you live.
Charles's eyes widened. The shock had come back. He just couldn't believe it. There was no way in hell that this was happening. He plopped down onto the floor and shook his head in disbelief, muttering to himself. Overreacting or not, he was not holding up to this.
Suddenly he felt had hand touch his shoulder and quickly looked up. It was Aria, giving him a reassuring and sad smile. She said, "You don't have to worry. But please, just help us."
It was rather pathetic for him.
Charles just stared at her for a minute, not sure what to think. Finally, his face softened a little bit, and he pulled himself up. He turned to Elric.
"Alright," he finally said. "I'll play along and help you defeat this Dark Lord. After that, however, I would like to request that I be left alone for the rest of my days by anybody."
The Prince nodded. "I will make sure that nobody comes near you. Also... I am going to have assign you a guard." He gave a an apologizing smile. "But please take no offense. This way there is meant to be less violence. You know what I'm talking about, hopefully."
The werewolf couldn't tell whether or not Elric was being polite or if he was really sorry about that, but it didn't really matter to him. "Alright, I'll agree to a guard. Though is there anybody brave enough to do it."
Aria stepped in and said with confidence, "I'll do it."
Charles cracked up. "You? Are you serious? There wouldn't be much of a challenge if I decided that I didn't want to do this anymore."
In the background, Fujitsu was finally regaining feeling throughout his body and was picking himself up. It was really strange why his body did that. He couldn't figure out why it happened. However, the battle was over, and there was no point in complaining about it.
He decided that he should take a part of the conversation.
"You won't have to worry about that. I'll be there to back her up," he said, staring at Charles.
"So I have a little girl and a little retarded boy guarding me? Are you even taking me seriously?" he chortled.
Click stepped in and said, "Oh, I don't know. He may be insane, but even you might have trouble with him."
"Hmph. Maybe I will. But I'm not counting on it." Charles turned back to Aria. "Girl, I wouldn't recommend that you take this position. So if you need time to think about it, make up your mind by morning. As per the boy...."
He glanced at Fujitsu, who was staring at him with much vigor and creepiness.
"I'm going to take it he's not backing down."
He turned once again to Elric. "There wouldn't happen to be a room available for me, would there?"
"I will have one set up for you, if you need one," he said, "but don't you think you should go to the infirmary and get those wounds treated?"
Charles shook his head and responded, "I heal remarkably fast. It shouldn't take me long to recover. Three days at the most. Question is, are your heroes as fast to heal?"
The Prince couldn't say for sure.
"Well, I'm going to sleep now. For tonight, I'll just sleep in the garden. Oh, and girl." He turned one more time, back to Aria. He stooped down and picked something up, then proceeded to throw it at her. The object landed by her feet. It was a rose. "It had your scent on it, along with the boy's. Strange how it never got burned. I'll leave you to deal with it."
With that, he proceeded to walk outside and find a place to sleep.

The End
