The Secret Diary of a Lottery Winner

.May 12th, 2008

Dear Diary,

OH MY GOD. I WON THE LOTTERY. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? 10.5 MILLION DOLLARS! And it's mine! Now, you may think that the moment I found out I won, I was filled with joy and excitement. But to tell you the truth, I wasn't. For the past nine years, my two daughters, Leslie and Jade, and I have been struggling with money and I promised them that we would get through it. They believed in me. I had a plan. I was going to get a job, and work hard at it... get them a better life than I had, anyway. Thus, when I won, I paused. What will they think of me? I thought. I didn't stride for anything, other than a lucky ticket. I didn't make a better life for them. This stupid ticket did.

When I told Leslie and Jade that I had won, of course they were thrilled. Why wasn't I? I thought. I didn't know what was wrong with me. Immediately, Jade ran into her room and jotted the moment in her jam-packed journal. On the other hand, Leslie, took out her scratched cell phone and marked the date on her calendar. That was the difference between my girls. So different, yet the same.

Well, now we're in present time and it's Jade's birthday. Ever since she was a little girl, she'd been begging for a puppy. Of course, now, I could afford it, so I went ahead and bought one, like money nor quality was an option. I was very surprised at myself. When I gave Jade her gift, her eyes beamed in all brightness, screeching at the top of her lungs. The only thing was, she did that every year. It was no different. She was grateful for everything she'd ever gotten.
