You decide to visit your friend. Perhaps she can offer you condolences and any ideas to beat the writer’s block.
You quickly make your way across the street to where she lives, luckily so close. You knock on her peeling-paint front door, but nobody replies and there is no car in the driveway. You wonder whether your friend has simply forgotten about you.
You could ring her, but you decide, instead, to break into her house by using the side-gate into the garden.
As you make your way cautiously around (you don’t want to get a reputation for breaking in!), you find yourself gazing at a giant ladder sitting on the patio. As you crane your neck, you notice that it goes all the way to the top of the three-story house, the roof, stopping at the first and second floors on the way.
