I woke up the smell of food, I looked over and D was gone. I sat up and stretched, and headed towards the fire. Then I realized I was naked. Shit, I had sex with D last night. What was I thinkin? I grabbed my clothes and went to the fire. I saw Dylan sitting my the fire with a frying pan in his boxers.
"Good morning Beautiful." He said to me as he handed me a cup of coffee.
I smirked and nodded. He gave me an unsure look and went back to cooking. I sat down in one of the chairs and drank my coffee in silence. I didn't even know how to react. I didn't want us to start some one night relationship.
"Is there something on your mind that you won't even look at me?" D asked turning around to me using a stern tone.
"No." I quickly said not even looking up from my coffee.
"You've got to be kidding me." He replied standing up and heading towards me. "We have a great night and day and you won't even look at me. Yup there's definitely nothing on your mind." He yelled kicking the coffee pot across camp.
"Don't you yell at me like I'm one of your football players!" I spat back.
"You don't understand! You've always been more than some chick to me!"
"I don't understand? You're kidding right?"
"You have never given one incentive that I am more than just a friend to you!"
"Are you listening to yourself?"
"Yeah, I am. What the hell is your problem?"
"My problem? Well let's see. I, sorry, we had sex last night. Unprotected sex that is and oh yeah, with my best friend!"
"How is all that a bad thing!"
"Dylan, don't even try and tell me that you did it all out of 'love' cause that'd be a bunch of shit. You really don't understand how easy it is to get pregnant if you think it's ok to have unprotected sex!"
He shot me this look of total betrayal and hurt. I've never seen that look, I was almost like he going to cry.
"What?" I asked my tone laced with mixed emotions.
"You really think that I don't love you?" He asked throwing his arms into the air.
"Well sorry to say it, but you've never showed it until Friday at the bar."
"Lex, I love you more than life it's self. I sat around and waited for years." He yelled
I just stood there and watched as his eyes went from ice cold, to soft and loving. It was like a flip of a switch.
"In high school when I told the guys you were the only one with the power to stop be, I meant you were the only that I loved enough to listen too." He shouted pointing to me taking a step closer to me.
"D…" I paused with and sighed "why didn't you say something earlier?" I replied letting a tear stream down my cheek.
"I thought you were happy! The only thing I've ever wanted was to see you happy."
"Dylan I'm only happy when you're around. I waited day after day hoping that one day you'd open your eyes to see that I loved you! I hated seeing you with anyone but me!" I exclaimed now throwing my hands up in the air.
"Why are we so stupid?" Dylan asked letting a small smile break his seriousness for a second.
"Because we're both too bull headed and stubborn to admit anything." I replied letting a tiny smile through the tears.
"Come here, please." He pleaded with his arms open wide.
I accepted and gave him a tight hug. He kissed the top of my head, and slowly let go.
"I'm sorry for yelling at you."
"I'm sorry for ignoring you. I just had a lot on my mind. I should've just talked to you."
"I love you Lex."
"I love you too D."
* * *
I paced back and forth through my office. I was so nervous. D was so calm, just sitting there at my desk like nothing was going on.
"Are you even nervous?" I asked frantically.
"Not really. Whatever happens happens. Nothing we can do about it now." He replied looking at the clock.
The wrestling coach Bill Bailey walked into my office. This was one of Dylan's close friends, so I kinda figured that he knew.
"What's wrong Lex?"
"I'm a little nervous at the moment Bill!"
Bailey gave a weird look D's way, and Dylan just looked at the time and laughed.
"She waiting for her pregnancy test results to come back, and she's panicking." Dylan said ever so calmly.
"Bailey, you have kids! Were you this calm with the first one?"
"No, I was scared shitless!"
"Exactly! Not normal!"
"Let me know how it all works out." Bailey said walking out of my office.
I continued to pace around the my office another 15 minutes when my office phone rang. I ran to it and picked it up.
"Hi, is this Alex?
"Yes, who's this?"
"It's Coach Bron, are you in your office? Coach Smeal and I want to confirm something."
"Yeah, I'm done here!"
"Alright be down in a few!"
I hung up the phone, and looked to Dylan who was waiting for me to tell him who it was.
"Coach Bron and Smeal are on their way down." I said trying to sit down.
Coach Bron was my softball coach, and Coach Smeal was D's football coach. Those two were always teasing D and I about getting together. Especially in the hallways. Coach Bron teaches History and Smeal is now just a gym teacher. They'd see us in the hallways and start cracking jokes because D and I always made sure we had the same exact schedule so we could walk together. I heard a knock on the door and I saw both of them standing in my doorway.
D got up and shook both of their hands. "Smeal, Coach Bron."
I looked at Coach Breon and he opened up his arms. "Come here Lex!" I smiled and hugged him back.
Coach and I had always been close, other than just being my History teacher and coach, he was my pitching and hitting instructor. So there had been a lot of hours spent talking about things.
"So what can I help you two rascals with?" I asked sitting up on one of the beds.
"We're here to confirm a rumor." Smeal replied with a sneaky smile.
"Ok, and that is?" Dylan asked suspiciously.
"How old are you two?" Bron asked next.
"27, why?" I asked.
"Well, we hear that you're together, is that true?"
I looked at D, and D looked at me.
"Yes, we are." He replied.
"We also hear that Alex might be expecting, is that true?" Coach Bron pressed.
We both nodded in udder amazement.
"HA! Pay up Smeal!" Coach Bron replied.
D and I looked at the two in confusion, they had a bet on us?
"I'm confused!" I yelled throwing my arms up in the air.
"Smeal and I made a bet when you guys we're named 'The Power Couple'. I said you guys would be together and have a kid by 30. He said it wouldn't happen."
D and I just sat there in shock. I looked at D and shook my head, and D began to laugh.
"Well, I'll be seeing ya!" Smeal replied retreating from my office.
"So are you nervous?" Coach Bron asked.
"She is, I'm not." D replied putting his arm around my waist.
"My wife was freaking out, but I was pretty calm."
D looked at me and reassured his state. My phone began to ring and ran across the room to answer it, D and Coach laughed at my frantic state as I answered the phone.
"Oh yeah, of course Dr. White. So what did you find out?" I asked grabbing hold of D's hand tightly.
I looked to D's and I felt the tears coming to the surface. D gave me a what expression, I shook it off.
"That's great! Thank you so much."
I hung up the phone and looked to Dylan who was on the edge of his seat. I took a deep breath and took both of his hands.
"So? What did she say?" He asked with a shaky voice.
"Well…I'm pregnant!" I yelled as the tears flooded over my cheek bones.
D jumped up and hug me tight. He picked me up and starting spinning me around in circles. He slowly let me down, and ran his fingers through my hair looking right into my eyes. D shook Coach's hand and I hugged him.
"Congratulations." Coach whispered into my ear. "You're going to be a great mother."
I looked to D who was no longer calm.
"I love you so so much!" He yelled with an ear to ear smile on his face.
"I love you too!" I replied laughing.
I couldn't believe that in three short months so much had happened. I never would of guessed that a relaxation trip with my best friend could have lead to so much more. I was going to get to live the life with D that I dreamed of for so many years. They were no longer dreams, they were reality.
