"Heal him." I said to the woman.
She turned to me, "He's dead."
"That doesn't mean anything, heal him."
She sighs and turns back to Brand. Then, she kneels down beside Brand and hovers her hands over his body while chanting quietly. Eventually, the dark lines on Brand's face begin to fade and retreat. I watch as Brand gets healed. Then, he opens his eyes and starts coughing. He rolls over as he throws up.
I retch. "Eww, that's disgusting."
"It's how magical poisons leave, through regurgitation."
I look at the woman, now that she had healed Brand she would be cast out of the village, right?
She looks at me and stands up. "Yes?"
"The three of us are on a journey to the Palace. We want to convince the Magister Lord to stop persecuting naturals. Because we're just scapegoats. The real problem is there's not enough food, the people are starving. And as long as they're afraid of us, they're not worrying about where they'll be getting their next meal."
"I see, and what use can I have for your quest."
"For one, your arrows are magic driven. And two you can heal. You're practically perfect."
"I will have to think about it."
"No, you can't think about it. We'll be leaving quickly, we have to stay on the move. If you stay here we can't come back."
"Ok, I will come."
"Thank you, Bernadette."
Then, Brand pipes up. "Wait! You mean my almost murderer is traveling with us?"
I turn to Brand. "You did kill a bunch of her friends."
"That doesn't give her an excuse."
"Yes it does."
Then Jorden walks up to Bernadette. "We're glad you decided to join us. The bigger a group of people the more easier the quest will be."
"Well, I'm glad you guys are happy to have me come along. I will use what powers I have to help you obtain your goal."
"Thank you, Bernadette. Now, I think we should get going."
I put out my hand and Brand grabs it, then I pull him up onto his feet. Bernadette then stands up and together the four of us continue down the path.
