this is a story about a young girl watching her mum go through cancer and how hard it is on some poeple.
Minnie watched as the credits rolled up the screen. Tears were still streaming down her face. She looked around, couples were hugging and holding each other close, friends were talking and everyone, girls and boys had tears in their eyes. She knew that the movie had worked. She hoped that everyone knew how short life could be and she hoped that everyone would take control of their lives and live without regrets. Her teacher came up to the podium and he was wiping tears from his cheek.
“I knew Addison, Minnie’s mother personally and was a very close friend, Minnie has inherited a great gift from her mother and I think we all should live without regrets and whenever we do something that we are scared to do, we should all do it with Addison in mind. She will always be the angel watching over us. Now, here to tell us more about the movie is Minnie.” As everyone started to clap Minnie got up and went to the podium. She shook her teachers hand and thanked him for the introduction. When she was there and she looked out at the audience, butterflies fluttered around her stomach and so she drew energy from her nerves.
“We have nothing to fear but fear itself. That is something my mother would always tell my siblings and me. So when she told us she had been diagnosed with cancer we were all concerned. I am the youngest and my oldest siblings were in college or working on their career. We all had become so wrapped up in our own lives that we barely knew each other. So we spent a lot of time in awkward silence as we all were worried about mum. Then one day as I was making breakfast I bumped into Mitch and spilt milk everywhere , I burst into tears and all of sudden it didn’t seem to matter how much time we had spent apart from each other. He did what he had always done when I was crying; he put his arms around me and told me that everything was going to be okay. I asked him how he knew that and he told me because we were a strong family and we were raised by the best mother ever. Aaron and Anastasia walked in then and we all had a good cry together. It was during that very sibling moment that I came up with the idea for this film. I hoped my mum would be able to watch it but I didn’t finish it in time.” Minnie took a deep breath and wiped the tears from her eyes.
“My mother has and always will be my hero and my inspiration. Most of the film was actually what she herself shot all I did was the interview and pieced it together. I hope we have all learnt that life is short and unpredictable.
“No matter what tell those you love just how much you love them. Never miss a moment and don’t ever regret not doing something, just do it. Follow your heart and you will always be doing the right thing. The world is a hard place to live in but try to live in it rather than always being on the outside and unhappy.
“There are so many other quotes said by people wiser than us that we sometimes don’t listen too. So when I asked my mother why no one ever listens she replied ‘because they’ve forgotten how and more importantly they’ve forgotten that relaying on someone else isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength. Asking for help is sometimes the strongest thing someone can do.’ I will always remember those words and I will hold them close to me and although I may be afraid to ask for help at times, I will take a deep breath and ask anyway because I know that just asking for help makes me stronger and I will get the results faster.
