Phase #1

'Time to leave.' she replied.

'Sorry?'

'I said it's time we left. Come on.'

She strode off down the corridor throwing an arch glance across her shoulder in his direction. How could Johnny resist? As if tied to her clicking heels he was propelled out of the door and into the Wal Mart car park. She stopped at an old beaten up sky blue Volkswagen Bay camper. It looked like it had been stolen off the set of a Beach Boys video. She clambered into the driver seat, still in her work uniform, leant over the seat and swung the passenger door open. She smiled crookedly, like a broken vase. Johnny hopped in. He managed to muster up the courage to speak: 'What's your name?'

'My name is Antonia. And we are going to Alaska.'

A flurry like a snow storm set off in Johnny's stomach- how could he leave everything behind? Would people miss him? Had he left the X-Box on? All this faded in the harsh blast of Antonia's arrival. The more pressing question was, would he miss home?
