That Crazy Little Voice
“Yes,” the voice inside Janice’s head was going crazy. It could hardly take the suspense anymore. I can’t take this! He needs to ask already or I’m going to cause him great physical harm! Please God end this torment! Wait did he say that you were tormenting him with your pauses? That’s a good sign! A very good sign. Er! Curse his first born child! He needs to ask ALREADY !!!
Calm down. I don’t like the suspense either but what can I do? And don’t curse his first born child! Hopefully it’ll be mine too.
Oh but its ever so much fun! Fine. He just better hurry… Finally the voice quieted. “Someone needs to chillax,” Janice muttered.
“What?” Kyle asked.
“Oh nothing, talking to myself.”
“Oh…ok. Did someone forget to take their crazy meds today?”
“Ha ha. Not funny and stop trying to change the subject. What was that question?”
“Well now that I think about it, I’d rather ask you in person.”
What?! “Ok then…” Janice forced herself to say. That punk… I’m going to kill him, the voice was furious.
“So yeah I’ll just ask you tomorrow at school,” Janice could hardly hear Kyle over the voice screaming in her head. Shut up already! I need to hear him! ...Fine… The voice settled down to a soft stream of threats and profanities.
“Um.. tomorrow’s Sunday.”
“It is?” Kyle was confused.
“Yeah, today’s Saturday.”
“Damn, I did not plan this well at all…”
“Wait you planned this?”
This time Kyle was shocked into silence. “Well… Maybe. Just a bit.”
“O..k” The threats and profanities slowed as a smile crept across Janice’s face.
“Yeah, guess I shouldn’t of clued you in on that. I should go punish myself. Now were did I put that bat?”
“No! Don’t punish yourself. Its ok. I could always just pretend I didn’t hear it.”
“You would do that for me?”
“Yeah, though it might be hard.”
“Why would it be hard?” Kyle asked, curious.
“You’re kinda hard to forget,” Janice admitted, biting her lip, “In a good way of course.”
“Thanks. Its not easy getting you off my mind either.”
Not Really the Same
Janice almost fell as her heart stopped. Her jaw had broken through the floor and was heading towards the core of the Earth. He…he just… did he… he did didn’t he… Janice waited for the voice to start yelling but it didn’t.
“Janice?” Kyle’s voice was small and scared, “did I scare you away?”
“No of course not. I… I just… had to process that.”
“Oh. Well I was just saying that you’re hard to forget too.”
“No, you said it was hard for you to get me off your mind.”
“Isn’t that the same thing,” Kyle was trying to get away with something.
“No not really.”
“W-well… is either a bad thing?”
“Not at all,” she said smiling.
“So I didn’t offend you or anything?”
“No. Maybe a bit confused but that’s all.”
“Oh well maybe I can unconfuse you some time.”
“Hmm… I’d like that.”
“Next time I see you I’ll make sure to have some paper so I can draw a diagram for you,” he teased.
“Sure. That and you can ask me that question.”
“Oh yes THAT question. I’ll be sure to remember.”
Things To Do
Pretty picture isn’t it? The voice had returned, commenting on the image of Janice and Kyle sitting there, together. Yes anything with him in it is.
“So…” Janice really didn’t have anything to say, something that did not happen frequently.
“There’s something I have to do but I really don’t want to?” Kyle whined.
“Well besides the math, thanks for reminding me, I have to hang up,” Kyle said sadness clear in his voice.
“Aw. Do you really have to?”
“Yeah. My Mom’ll kill me if I don’t get my room clean. Plus that math.”
“Oh. I should get going too. I have a similar mom problem.”
“So I guess I’ll talk to you tomorrow?”
“Sure if you think you can stand more pauses.”
“I think I can handle it.”
“Good. Full of talents aren’t you?” she teased.
“Yup. Full of secret, hidden talents.”
“Well, good night Kyle.”
“Night Janice. Sweet dreams.” Click. If you’re in them, they will be.
Well that was fantastic.
Yes it was.
