You take a step forward. Everything is dark - all your can see is the faint outline of shelves, and a thousand books.

The lights, on a motion sensor, flicker on, and you jump.

Will they catch you?

Your heart pumping in your ears, you take another step forward, towards the shelves.

Are the books watching you? They have that knowing look ...

You reach out. You hand touches the spine of the book and you slide it carefully off the shelf.

It is like gold-dust in your palm.

You tuck it carefully under your shirt, and turn away.
