Professor Minerva McGonagall
Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry
Re: Head of Slytherin House
Please accept this letter as official confirmation of my seconding of the nomination of Mr Draco Malfoy for the above vacant post. Following Severus Snape’s unscheduled retirement, I believe that this role requires an individual with a similar outlook on life and similar skills to lead the students of Slytherin.
Due to my long association with Mr Malfoy, I am intimately familiar with various aspects of his character which would enable him to fill the previous post-holder’s shoes perfectly. In addition, Mr Malfoy’s affinity with the shadier side of wizardry, his ancestry and his personal tutelage under the infamous Severus Snape qualify him absolutely.
My own House, Gryffindor, has for some years benefited from a healthy competitive relationship with Slytherin and I look forward to continuing this tradition with Mr Malfoy. I’m also confident that my eldest son, James, and Mr Malfoy’s son, Scorpius, will be keen to assist us in maintaining this, not least in the field of Quidditch. As you are aware, both students have recently joined their respective House teams.
I understand that this post is for a fixed term of one year, although I have no hesitation in stating that I am sure Mr Malfoy would succeed to a second term in the role. However, if there are ever any concerns about his future suitability for this particular post, I have it on good authority that Mr Malfoy has personal experience of transfiguration. At a young age, he once enjoyed an unfortunately brief sojourn as a ferret. It would be my personal pleasure to arrange his return to this, should the opportunity ever arise.
