The funny thing was that the lights were so bright. The streets were so busy.
It all just made her smile. She never paid as much attention as she was supposed to, much to the annoyance of her mother. So she had run away. Gone into the city. Found her dream.
She had grown up wanting to be famous, walking into every building asking for a job. After lots of rejections, she just gave up. Sitting on the side of the street, she couldn't help but smile. Despite the fact that her life was crumbling in front of her eyes, she couldn't help but grin.
After being offered some money by a passing stranger, she got up and bought herself some food from a nearby stall. As she ate it, she started to cross the road.
The driver didn't really care - it was mainly a problem of getting the food on his windscreen rather than the fact that some poor homeless girl had been killed. In a true uncaring fashion, he hit her and ran away.
The girl sat in the road crying.
There was another girl, taller and thinner, standing on the pavement, watching her. As the rest of the people crossed the road, she picked the crying girl up and helped her into a back alley that was empty.
"What are you doing?"
"My dear child, you were just killed. I'm here to help out. Consider me your auntie."
"Oh now this is silly!"
"Now shut up and listen. I'm needed elsewhere right now so I can't help you much. What is your name?"
"Well Ayako, I'm Kiyoko. Welcome to the city."
"Where are you going?"
"So what are you doing?"
"Helping an old friend."
"Shut up Ayako. I need to concentrate."
Ayako stepped back, sliding down against the nearby wall. Kiyoko closed her eyes, clenching her fists.
"Current location: Tokyo, Japan. Desired location: London, England."
"What are you talking about?"
"Route found. Sender name: Kiyoko. Receiver name: Lollie."
"Person found. Record message."
And with that, Kiyoko suddenly became a lot more animated, waving her hands about, with her eyes displaying her fear.
"Something nasty is going on here Lollie. Lots of deaths recently. I could do with some advice. Please. Lots of love from your friend Kiyoko."
And with that, she collapsed.
* * * * *
Lollie stumbled backwards, as if punched in the stomach.
"Lollie? What's going on?"
And with that, Lollie collapsed, Kiyoko's words flowing through her mind like a bullet.
