Chapter 54: SpeechlessMature

Suzy couldn't say a word. She was dying inside. She had done such a terrible thing but she could never tell anyone. Never. It was her little secret. Only hers.

Or was it?

Lollie had spent the last few minutes staring at Taylor's body. She had tried to nudge it into the bath but that hadn't worked; she'd just gone straight into the plumbing. She looked on as the body just decomposed at an alarming rate. It was catching up on all the years that it had missed out on when her spirit had still been in there.

She knew it wouldn't be long until she just saw the bare skeleton of the woman she had once, only briefly, known and she couldn't deal with that. She passed through the door and came face to face with a near-naked Rosie. She didn't know what to say.

Rosie could not believe that that had just worked. As she dressed herself, she thought of what to do with the body. She didn't really know how she was going to get it out of her flat, especially since she was six floors up. She could just imagine the look on someone's face as she dragged that rotten corpse into the lift - it probably would have been quite similar to hers a couple of days ago.

It was only when Lollie showed her the skeleton that things started to get a fair bit more complicated. But one good thing was that the bones could be transported much, much easier.

Clive was utterly speechless.

This had never happened before.

They had never escaped him.

This one was strong. She was resourceful.

He had never expected this.

It all just made him smile even more.

Everything, every person, every plant, every mineral, shook.

Beverly was ecstatic! She was free!

As Clive had drawn near again, she had said one phrase that caught him off guard, that put him on edge and allowed her to break free from his control. One phrase that she never thought would save her life.

"I love you."

As much as it had disgusted her saying that, the thought that she was now free made up for it. She had slipped past him and was running for her life. He had thrown bolts of energy at her - something she must ask Lollie to teach her to do at some point in the future - but she had kept going; she couldn't be distracted easily.

She could see someone in the distance, someone she thought she recognised.

Before she fell to her death, she caught a glimpse of a face. It was a normal face, nothing that she'd say was different. He had a couple of freckles but beyond that, he looked rather plain and boring.

* * * * *

It was him. He was beckoning her over. What was the harm? She was already dead.

She approached the man she knew to be her killer. He tilted his head slightly, an eerie look in his eyes.

"Let me tell you a secret." he said, his voice wavering.

She nodded, feeling uncomfortable.

"I was nearly aborted. I know what it feels like." The words hit her like a bullet, their meaning ricocheting through her body. "Hell of a story to be told on your 18th birthday after a troubled childhood."

The End
