Chapter 42: Detective workMature

Lollie smirked, "No." she said, simply, fiddling with the chain of the necklace.

Rosie raised an eyebrow at the girl, "Why not?"

"You've got to tell me what it is first," she said, grinning, "What does it mean, Detective?"

"Oh." Rosie said, "It's just... a necklace," she said, furrowing her brow in confusion, "It doesn't mean anything.."

Lollie Rolled her eyes, "Okay, Detective," she emphasised the word, "What do these letters mean?" she turned the necklace over and showed it to her companion. "LRJ. What do these letters mean?"

Rosie studied the letters carefully, "I... I don't know..?" she looked confused, "I've never noticed them before." Lollie sighed and sat back in her chair.

"Okay," she said, handing the necklace over, "You're the detective. Find out what these letters mean."

Aaron slammed on the brakes, coming to a quick stop outside of the apartment complex. He jumped out of the car and ran to the door of the building, quickly making his way up the stairs and to the fourth floor, running along the corridor until he reached the familiar door of number 47.

He hammered loudly on the door, calling out "ROSIE? ROSIE ANSWER THE DOOR!" after a few minutes of knocking and receiving no reply, he tried the door. It was locked and didn't budge as he pushed on it. He swore out loud and kicked the door, swearing again as pain coursed through his leg.

Beverly turned to Susanna, who was watching a mother pushing her child on the swings, "Do you think Christina's coming back?" she said, genuinely worried. Susanna just shrugged and Beverly sighed.

After a few moments of silence, Susanna spoke, her voice seeming to echo thoughtfully, "What was it like?" she said, not taking her eyes off of the child, "Your life.. How was it?"

Beverly shrugged, "It was... okay," she smiled, "I had a good family, a roof over my head, good friends and food and water so.. I can't really complain," she paused and looked at Susanna, "What about yours, Suze? What was yours like?"

"It sucked." Susanna said, firmly. "Everything about it just sucked."
