"I'm sorry, Levi..."
"Who is this?"
She hung up. The line was dead but I still held the phone to my ear. It was Kaya. Kaya. After a year...
I checked the caller ID and called the number. No one answered. I left a message. After about 3 hours of leaving messages, I gave up. I couldn't give up now. Kaya was out there. Saying sorry. Waiting. And I was going to find her.
I called once more. Someone picked up.
"Hello?" said a sweet voice. It was Kaya's mother.
"Hello. Is Kaya there?"
"Kaya? Oh, she was headed over to a friend's house. I'm sorry. But may I ask who's speaking?"
"Levi. Levi Jackson."
"Oh," she said, "I think she's coming to your house."
My heart leaped. It leaped until it bounced out of my chest.
She hung up. I just thought. Kaya... was coming? After a year. It's not possible. It really isn't. Why now? My birthday is not until next month.
The bell rang. I felt like I was going to pass out. I almost did. I ran to the door and opened the door.
There she was.
She smiled and wept. Tear swam down her cheeks. I stood in the doorway looking at the beautiful love of my life standing right in front of me. I enveloped her in my arms.
