Getting Exactly What I Wanted

It took me a while to stop panicking and figure out what to do. Then, I grabbed a schoolbag and started running out of the house and into the street. I knew where I had to go - who I had to talk to.

I almost cried when I saw him running towards me. I was already halfway to Travis's house when I caught sight of him. It was then that I realized how tired I was, so I stopped running and I bent down, hands on my knees. I tried to catch my breath as Travis came up beside me.

I looked up at him, praying for nothing short of a miracle - something that would make things alright again.

"Ivy," he said.

I grabbed his arm and pulled him towards me. I put my arms around him and held on. He said my name. He knew who I was.

"I'm not Nicole," I whispered.

His body tensed for a minute, then he relaxed and hugged me back. "I know."

I let go of him and tried to pull myself together. "What is happening?"

"I have no idea," he replied. "I woke up at the lake, but you weren't there anymore. I figured you walked home so I went back to my house and took a shower, got dressed, and then made my way to your house. But, then something weird - "

His voice faded. He looked at me cautiously, as if trying to decide whether he'd tell me or not. Whether I'd believe him or not.

"It wasn't me, was it?" I asked him.

Travis looked away. Then, he shook his head. I stared at him, waiting for him to figure things out like he always did. I didn't want to figure it out. I couldn't.

Travis, you have to figure it out for me. Please. I don't know what's going on. It feels like I'm losing it. Travis, please.

Then he turned to me. "Ivy."

He had no idea how he saved me with every time he said my name.

"Ivy, last night," he began. "What did you wish for?"

"Last night, under the tree, " he said breathlessly, "what was your wish?"

I shook my head as I started to recall. "No, that's not possible."

"Ivy, you need to tell me what you wished for," he almost begged.

"I - I - No, it's impossible," I replied, trying to get the words out of my mouth, and failing. "I just  w - wished for Sp - "

"Spencer," said Travis.

I nodded. I tried to search his eyes for some sort of feeling, but he wasn't even looking at me. He was looking past me. I turned around and saw what he was looking at. It was Spencer, smiling and walking towards us.

No, he's walking towards me.

I froze.

"Hey," said Spencer.

I looked at him - with his dark hair and brown eyes. My heart was beating so fast.

I couldn't bring myself to greet him back. I only turned around to look at Travis, but he already had his back turned, walking away.

The End
