the hunter's prey

Prologue

Cold eyes surveyed the woodland as hunter tracked his prey. The hunter’s warm and moist brown nose sniffed the air; drawing in all scents from miles around. Then one by one the hunter’s subconscious eliminated all of the several thousand unnecessary scents until it isolated the prey’s scent. The prey was a young girl. At this revelation the hunter’s mind was surprised but it had its orders to take down and bring back the prey and it had never disobeyed an order from its superiors. Suddenly the hunters mind processed all of the information it could from the girls scent, and it came to the conclusion that she was running away to the west of the hunters position. Well she could run but she wouldn’t succeed and she certainly couldn’t hide. Glumly the hunter realised that this would be too easy. He had hoped for a challenge but the likely hood of this insignificant female being able to provide any sort of a challenge was very unlikely not that the hunter wasn’t secretly hoping for something to happen that would provide challenge.

With a coarse wild howl, the hunter the dropped to all four paws and then immediately set off after his quarry. After yet another 2 hours of fruitless searching the hunter had still not been able to locate his quarry and although he was secretly pleased the woman was proving a more intelligent and challenging prey than he thought she was, his superiors back at the den caves would be disappointed. However after yet another hour of following his prey’s scent the hunter detected many changes to the woman’s smell; she smelled closer and she seemed to be moving slower than before. "Ah well; it was an interesting case; but it has to end now that she is tiring;" he thought and then he put a burst of extra speed and moved at incredible speeds through the twisting paths between the trees.

It took the next hour to chase down the quarry’s gargantuan lead. But when eventually he did chase down the quarry, he found his prey in a clearing leaning and breathing very hard and leaning against a tree. When the target looked up and saw the hunter approaching deliberately slowly she dropped into a fighting stance and drew a weapon. The sword drew the predator’s attention for a full minute before he assessed the danger that the female and her sword presented. After looking very hard into her eyes, he noticed the fatigue that she was feeling and was satisfied that she wouldn’t be able to hold him off for long. With that in mind the hunter began to cautiously approach and probe the woman’s defenses all the while carefully watching the prey’s eyes to see when her guard would drop. Suddenly her arms couldn’t keep the sword up in the guard position and suddenly before she could even realise that her guard had dropped; the hunter had leapt through the air and knocked his prey to the ground. Within seconds all fight had been forced out of the hunter’s prey and she lay breathing hard and entirely at the mercy of the hunter. The hunter for a few seconds deliberated what to do with the prey now he had her; he knew she had to reach his masters alive so that narrowed the choices down. Those choices that he was presented with were knocking her out ad carrying her, tying her hands and forcing her to run alongside him or firmly strap her to his back and run however uncomfortable she would be.

After his deliberation the hunter decided to strap the female to his back and carry her home and with this in mind he got ropes from his trackers pouch and firmly bound the prey hand and foot then constructed and strapped her into a harness on his back. This wasn’t the first search and recover mission he had been sent on.
