Male Tribute

To the Capitol

"Your a brave one, you are." My mentor smiles at me. "A fighter."

The silverware glistened as the sunlight hit it through the window. I'd been travelling most of the day, being escorted from the Justice Building late afternoon. My family farewells were painful, but I'd managed to hold my nerve. The Capitol will not break me. Not yet anyway.

The boy mirrors me in a way. We are the same age, tall, not as weak as many tributes we'd seen in the past. I don't want to make friendships, but he could be a valuable ally. Maybe working together wouldn't be all bad.

The Capitol glowed with the essence of summer. Butterflies in my stomach, I stand up, gazing out of the glass at my new home.

The End
