"I still can't believe you're going through with this," the Prince muttered as he watched his best friend prepare as he placed on dark emerald robes, the ones that were hard to see under the moonlight. "It's completely unnecessary."
"I love her Alexander. And I want this too," Adrian's voice sounded strained, and reluctant. The Prince was yet to believe him, even if it was the night of.
"You want this because she wants this. For once, I wish you'd live for yourself," Alexander stressed the point with a tone of disapproval.
The day that Adrian had told him about what Annalise wanted was the start of their first true arguments in their friendship. The Prince thought Annalise was being selfish, only just considering her own desires but not thinking about how this would effect Adrian.
Adrian, on the other hand, didn't know what to think. But he wanted to make his love work out and he'd do anything for that to happen, even it meant eloping.
"I am living for myself, Alexa-"
"No. You're living for the sake of your love. It's not the same," the Prince interrupted.
Adrian frowned and muttered sarcastically, "Well I'm glad to know you respect my decisions because that's what best friends do."
Alexander sighed and leaned back against the wall as his friend turned around to make one last check that he had everything. Sighing, he said, "I just don't want you to be hurt."
Adrian paused, meeting the concerned gaze of his friend and smiled. "I won't."
