Darkness came first. And it was all that seemed to last for a rather long period of time. Adrian waited patiently, his mind exploring this black plane he'd entered. Was this how death was? Infinite darkness and silence where the soul just sits and waits forever and on.
He interpreted death this way when nothing changed. Nothing up to that moment. A beam of light peeked in, causing Adrian to stagger back. What was that? Is this his calling to go to Heaven?
I'm being insensible.
Was he really? He didn't have any blame to place upon himself. After all, only a second ago he'd been conscious and now he was consumed by a darkness he had no reason for. Well, darkness and a shard of light.
Adrian took a timid step closer, looking up at the source of the ray. There was a small window (not as much a window as it was a tiny hole). Peering up, he tried to make sense of where he was and what he was doing there.
This must be it.
Adrian concluded the worst as fear gripped his heart. Maybe this was his passing on; from life to death. Maybe this is how it happened. He didn't know what to think as he stood there rooted to the spot in shock.
But then, before he could question his scenario further, the light grew. Expanding. Filling the small room he'd been standing in till Adrian was blinded by the brightness of the, once, small ray of light.
This really is it! I'm dying.
His fist tightened by his side and he closed his eyes, bracing himself for the next surprise.
