The Eclipse In Our Eyesmature
The whole scenario had hit the fan, as apposed to running smooth, we found our selves running the risk of wandering out into the desert and probably never heard from again. We could be the main course meal for hungry hyenas, or a rabies infected badger or whatever nocturnal creature lives in the desert.
Peter had a funny way of coping with life's issues. It seemed to always take a mystical experience in search of altered perspectives to change his opinion. As far as break ups went, shrooms seemed the perfect choice. He needed to let go, and the only way to do this was copious amounts of hallucinogens.
Why we had chosen the desert for the appropriate location, was beyond me. So by now the two of us had eaten at least a few grams though the effects of it hadn't made its self evident. Though as previously stated, our luck had taken a sharp turn and we veered from our planed path and now were speeding through the open desert at speeds that were dangerous for anyone, let alone two people on the edge of a different sort of trip.
We hit a large bump and the truck seemed to float for a moment, when we landed the loud cracking of metal could be heard, and to be sure, Peter stopped. He said this reminded him of a movie he saw and began to speak.
"I'm hoping that bump was just a cactus bro, last thing we need to do, is run down some indigenous folk."
His comment struck me as true, I certainly wasn't going to argue. Though as far as I knew, the native population of this area didn't exist. The shrooms were starting to work their magic. I wondered how much time had passed, but being in this mental mind frame my attention strayed else where.
I looked back at the truck, our doors flung open and the tail lights seemed brighter than normal. It was a beautiful night, canopy of stars, with a bright moon. I got lost in them for a moment.
Till a loud scream, one that I recognized, could be heard in the distance.I rushed over to peter and he looked back.
"Man, there's nothing there, nothing!!!No bump, no cactus."
This seemed to concern him.
"So what?"
I had no idea what to say, what had we been expecting to see, the fact there was noting seemed almost reassuring to me, but he had a different idea.
His eyes were wide open and anxiousness made its self visible on more then one front.
"You know what that means dude! It means, there was something there, but now it's gone!"
I immediately ran back to the truck. It just seemed instinctive. I practically dove in, nearly under the dash board, my face coming close to hitting the stick shift. I reached under the seat and lunged at the bag of shrooms.
Peter screamed upon his arrival into the truck.
"Don't be a mad man, that's our life line, give it to me first. If were to be connected to the universe, we have got to do it in a pace that will leave us attuned with our surroundings"
I didn't hesitate to give him the bag. I flipped down the mirror, looked at my eyes and was greeted by pupils that were fully eclipsed.
"Jake can I trust you to cover my back which I check the engine, we need to be sure it's working properly before we take off"
I looked at him and said.
"I'll do my best with resources I have at hand, will a flash light be sufficient?"
He nodded and next thing the hood was up, and he had began rearranging things within.
