Going Back

"Abbie. Please. You have to eat something" I begged. It had been a week since Ben... died. Abbie had stopped eating. She'd had a yoghurt in seven days. The only thing keeping her alive was what she was drinking, and even that was hardly anything. And she wouldn't talk much. Just short, absent responses to what we said to her. Never speaking unless she was spoken to.

"I'm not hungry" she said quietly. She sat just before the first crack. Her arms wrapped around her legs, just staring out over the mountain.

"We know. That's the only answer we ever get from you" Max sighed. I sighed too. he squeezed my arm. Even though she hadn't told us, we both knew why she was doing this. She didn't want to eat. The person she had loved the most in the world had left her forever. She didn't want to eat, no. She didn't want to live.

"Max, we need to go. Get away from here. This place isn't doing any of us any good" I said, just loud enough for him to hear.

"You're right. We need to get out of here. Now" he agreed.

"But there isn't anywhere to go"

"We do. It took us a year and a half to get here. We'll go back. As long as we're getting further away. Abbie's never gonna let go if we stay here"

"OK" I hugged him. He kissed me, automatically making sure Abbie wasn't looking. I did the same. But that was what we had to do. It really hurt her if she saw us. That was what had started this whole starvation thing. Abbie rarely was looking anywhere except over the cliffs. But our assumption that she wasn't looking that one time. That was all it took. Max twisted his hands into my hair and kissed me passionately. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back. "Come on. I'll tell Abbie. You start packing"

"Hmm. OK. Let's go" he got up and went into his side of the tent. I went over to Abbie. I knew that trying to talk to her about stuff was a hopeless case.

"Come on Abbie" I tugged her arm.

"Where are we going?"

"We're leaving. We're going to my house, We're going back"

The End
