Ben turned up then. He was carrying all our stuff that we'd packed. I turned to face the direction he'd come from. My house was now a smouldering ruin; all that was left was half of my room and part of the front room. "So, what actually happened?" I wondered.
"I was making breakfast when your cooker suddenly exploded."
"Why didn't you stop it?"
"I got thrown across the room straight away."
"Oh. Are you sure you're OK?" I said.
"Absolutely fine. What about you? You fainted!"
"I wonder why the oven exploded" said Ben.
"Same" I said. We looked at Max.
"How am I supposed to know?"
"Good point" said Ben and then "Our stuff kinda... got burnt"
"Oh. That's OK" I held out my hand towards it. "Rewind to just before the fire" the stuff unburned itself. I looked down at what I was wearing. I was still in my pyjamas and there was blood on my top. It was spread from the bottom of the shirt, across my chest and to my shoulder. It was soaked in. I closed my eyes. This was more blood than I'd ever seen and I didn't like it.
"Oh, yeah" said Max "Sorry about that."
"You can't help bleeding Max" I said. I put my hand on my clothes. "Rewind to before I went to bed" my ‘jamas turned into the clothes I had been wearing yesterday. I did the same for Ben and Max - they were in pyjamas too. "Right, we're not going to get anywhere by sitting round" I said, jumping up.
"Correct" agreed Max with a grin, jumping up too.
"Quite right" grinned Ben. He jumped up too. I put on my backpack and my tent, Ben put on his backpack and picked up his tent - that had a handle, not a strap. Max put on his backpack and the bag full of food.
"Let's go!" I said. We started walking and Max said:
"Where are we actually going?"
"Umm... we could go to that random grassy place next to the river, if you follow the path you come to a sort of camp-sitey thing." I suggested.
"Good idea" said Ben.
"I'm not sure of the way though" I said.
"That's OK, I know the way" said Ben. So he led the way to the river.
