Ben let out a nervous chuckle as he moved sideways, inviting Grim to come inside. "What? Can't a guy be romantic with his boyfriend?"
Grim stepped inside, giving Ben a quick kiss. "Romantic -" he looked over Ben's shoulder to see candles along the wall. And on the nightstand. And in the entertainment center. And all along all the walls, the stairs, the table. "Wow...What's all this?"
Ben kissed him again. "Oh, just a little something for the atmosphere."
Grim tilted his head in confusion. "Is this our anniversary or something? I've never been good with that kind of thing."
Ben laughed. "Neither am I, but I just thought it would be fun to have a romantic date for once." Ben offered to take Grim's coat. "Why don't you get into something more comfortable."
Grim's immediate thought was NAKED! but he dismissed that at seeing Bennett in such handsome clothes. He was going to enjoy taking them off, especially all those buttons...
Grim kissed him again and dashed up the stairs. He got out of his working magical clothes, smelling of all sorts of incense, and into regular t-shirt and jeans. He padded barefoot downstairs to the kitchen area.
There, Bennett was rearranging sushi. Grim grinned happily, seeing all the types arranged - and knowing he'd never be able to eat all of that. Ben held the chair out for Grim, and went to sit down. The two chatted about their day, and Grim watched Ben get more and more nervous. Grim pretty much took over the conversation, as Ben grew silent. Finally, Grim set down his chopsticks, Ben set down his and the two looked at each other.
"Okay," Grim said, and crossed his arms. "What's this about? Are you trying to break up with me?"
Horror crossed Ben's face. "Of course not!"
"Then what? Do you want something out of me that would be too hard to deliver?" He leaned forward. "You don't have to go through this. Ben, you know I'd do anything for you. So just ask me."
Ben slowly rose from his chair with a deep breath, and motioned for Grim to get up. At the moment, Ben knew he would rather be wrestling a Nemesis warhulk than do what he’s about to do… He then calmly set his knee down and pulled a small black box from his pocket.
Grim stood there, absolutely frozen.
“Michael, I love you, I did since the first day, that’s why I’m asking you to marry me.”
Grim, meanwhile, looked around, wondering fleetingly if this was a trick. No, the man he loved was on one knee in front of him, offering a small black box. He knew damn well what was in it.
Ben opened the box and offered what was inside. There was a gold ring. Suddenly, Grim's vision got blurry. He knew why. He closed his eyes to blink out the tears, then leaned forward again to look at the ring. His hands, shaking, took the offered box. The ring had runes etched on it, magical runes, imbued runes, pure magic. "Forever Together" they read, three times wrapped around it, three times meaning a completion of a spell.
Grim's eyes blurred again. He closed his eyes and whispered, “Yes, Ben." He opened his eyes and looked at the man, whose blind eye studying him just as much as his sighted one. "Of course I’ll marry you.”
He put the box down, and helped Ben up. Bennett, who was grinning, looked like the weight of the world had dropped from his shoulders. Grim said, "I'll get you a titanium one--"
He never completed the sentence, as Bennett kissed him, and continued to take Grim's breath away.
