The Dancemature
It began with a bang, naturally, the way all exciting things do, as the door smashed inwards and blew apart with the force of a Mac-truck behind it. On the other side of the wall he stood with an arm over his face and thankful for the thin body armor that Silja had been so kind to provide. Pieces of wood shattered and it was no doubt that someone would have heard the sound if he weren’t able to dampen it skillfully. Everything moved in slow motion and even as blue eyes slipped towards the grinning figure who whipped out into the now open doorway they couldn’t help but widen at the pleasure upon her face. Lithe and deadly, Annalise was sharp and fully dedicated to the notion of cutting a path through these oh so familiar halls. They knew Adara had gone for the week. It seemed safe enough to rob the place while the bitch was away.
Moving into the hallway slender fingers plucked the silver blades from their sheath that rested across her chest, easily and within seconds the pair of men who stood guard weren’t standing anymore. Her knives were settled deep in their throats and chests, with little lines of leaking blood being soaked up by cotton material. Poor guys weren’t even given body armor, Adara was becoming lax. Tsk, tsk. Leaning forward she bent down with her right knee resting upon one of the men’s chest and began searching through both of their pockets. It didn’t yield much but Anna ended up with both of their security tags – which were more like forms of ID than anything, a ring of keys and two walkie-talkies. Turning them both off, she tossed one badge to Daniel, keeping the rest for her kit bag. Knowing full well that if they used the guard’s badges on the wrong doors the alarm would go off.
“Is anyone coming?” She asked quietly, completely dependant upon his senses for awareness.
Shaking his head silently, Daniel mouthed the word “no” and watched as she pulled the bigger guy’s hands out from underneath his heavy musculature and continued to watch her skilful hands at work. Anna’s small fingers were holding the base of his thumb as still as possible while she attempted to slice through both skin and bone with her knife. The sickly sounds of flesh being cut were familiar, but he gave a small gasp when she yanked the poor sods thumb off half way through the cutting, leaving tendon and skin on the other side for her to slice though. It always made him a little sick to his stomach to see her so calmly detach a limb or extremity. Studying the motions silently while Anna pulled each throwing knife from the bodies, blue eyes remained locked upon her through the whole process of cleaning and didn’t lift from her form until she’d slipped them back into the sheath over her coat.
Daniel found himself reminded of the comment his new Master made about the fire-storm ahead:
She thinks like a warrior, Sil thought, moving towards the tall figure who stood in the window. He watched the girl always as she made her way back to Draven. The two women allowed for the relationship because both could see a benefit to sharing. Calculating green eyes explored the careless way he allowed feeling to show when Anna was around, Sil often found herself gazing upon the pair quietly, observing. Just as her counter-part would likely do as well. “She knows where the target will be before she has to look. The girl is smart. Her physical ability is much akin to your own power.” She said. It was the most comfort the wolf could find within herself to give.
They both knew what could happen to delicate things like these in the world they lived in now.
She gave a whistle and peered back with dark eyes at her lover with the semi-automatic held at her side. Spatters of blood were lost upon the black jacket she wore and even though the front of it was soaked, the blood only shone truly in newly dyed tresses. Strips of blonde were pink and red, already sticking together in thicker clumps that she would not notice until the fight was over.
“Go.” He said, having to remind the pair to part and begin their assignments. Light footfalls began down the hallway where more gun fire sounded; Anna took off leaving Daniel to his own devices.
He felt the tug from Silja even when he moved down the hall, felt her fading farther and farther away with the new charge. Out into the woods to hide him from prying eyes, lest Adara find out about him. Still, he was still surprised by the strength of the bond upon him. Long fingers remained in contact with the walls, drawing out the information from them like whispers the memories within them wall as he progressed deeper into the facility. They talked to him and he followed the images and familiar reflections that played as if upon a screen behind his eyes. Light did not penetrate the visions, even though he could see what was before him solidly he had mastered his skill well enough that he could divide his attention between the two enough to see both. Once you learned how, it wasn’t as difficult as it seemed.
All you needed to do was split your perception of things. He had an idea of what he was looking for but hadn’t much information to go on as to the records location. As devious as Adara was, she naturally kept a record of the boons she’d been lucky enough to gain and the deeds she’d done to gain them. What both Silja and Draven wanted to know was who owed her what and why, so they could effortlessly separated the friend from foe when it came right down to it. The downward slope of the floor alerted him to the direction he was taking, booted footfalls paused there upon the slope and he curiously peered along the cold steel walls to see if any surveillance equipment had been installed. After all, what do you do when your old system just walks out the door with his girlfriend?
That made pale rose lips rise slightly, finding little but the odd dent and scratch upon the surface of both walls and floor. She wouldn’t be satisfied with cameras, anymore. No camera had ever been able to catch what he could see. Even the snakes with their shadow-play weren’t as untouchable as they would have liked. But that was something that Silja had told him to keep silent about until the correct time made itself known. Or until she told him to do otherwise.
