Lucas was shocked. He didn't know what to do. He had just seen two of his closest friends - two people he had spent the last ten years of his life with, two people he had risked his own life for time and time again - killed. They had left their safe place and found a newer one. But they had died. He hadn't been able to do anything about it either.
He watched Wolf suspiciously. He hadn't trusted the man in the first place and now he hated him. As much as he wanted to pick up something nasty and take out his anger and his pain on the nasty man, he knew Origin would disapprove. This new world really had changed the pacifist he used to be.
And the lack of respect Wolf had shown when he had moved Brooke hurt him even more.
"What happened?" Origin was standing there, panting from all of the running around.
"They're both gone." Lucas said quietly. "I tried my best."
Origin put his arm around the broken man and pulled him into a hug. He cast a disapproving look over Wolf as he stared over the railings down onto the bodies. Well what was left of them anyhow.
"We're still alive." Origin smiled weakly. "That's the main thing."
"Survival of the fittest." Wolf muttered.
"Exactly! And we are the fittest."
"I doubt that." Lucas replied.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"We aren't fit to survive if we fight amongst each other. If we can't even trust each other. When we're actually afraid of another human being when there are those things out there, what is wrong with us? You Wolf. I don't trust you one little bit. And the way you just dealt with that. Are you even a human?"
"We haven't got time to mourn. We have to move on. Focus on surviving."
"How can you not care? Two people just died! One in your arms! How can you not have broken? You just had to look at her body! You despicable man."
Lucas ran away, right into Passion's arms.
"Are you alright?" she asked.
"No. But I'm not as sick as that man."
Passion took Lucas' hand and led him away.
She kissed him gently on the cheek. He looked at her.
"What was that for?" he asked, making sure to not sound like he was complaining.
"For being brave."
He kissed her back, again on the cheek.
"And that one?" she smiled as she said so.
"For being supportive."
The two walked into her surgery to check on him after Tristan's outburst.
"Those two look like they're getting rather close." Origin said with a smile towards the unimpressed Wolf.
"Quick." was Wolf's only reply.
"Love is blind."
"What's that got to do with it?"
"They barely know each other. Almost like a blind man looking at the world."
"A modern-day Romeo and Juliet." Wolf allowed himself a small smile at his knowledge of culture.
"I hope they don't end up dead!"
"They will. As will we all."
"Eventually." Origin said hopefully.
"Sooner than we should. We're all going to go before our time."
