The Cities, They Each Have Their Song/Chicago

Each writer provides a work, poetry or prose, that captures the essence of a city of their choosing.

Chicago,

even the name is brawny,

a blue-collar, beer-drinking, back-breaking, bull of a town,

Chicago,

a gentle bear of a place

a big-hearted, big-fisted, barrel-chested, brawl of humanity,

Chicago,

a cacophony of culture coming together,

whistles and horns, jazz and blues, the sounds of a city on fire.

Chicago,

checkerboard cops, speakeasy booze, tough as nails mayors,

a realm so raw that it forces souls to life.

Chicago,

God love ya.
