The Broken Mug

They say everything happens for a reason; that every life and every death play a vital role in determining the events of tomorrow. I am a firm believer in that. I also strongly believe in the unpredictability of life and its events. No one can determine the exact happenings over the next hour, or day, or week, or month. Your life may remain undisturbed, to an extent. Who could’ve predicted that mug would fall from its perch and break in two – yes, halved – separate pieces of mug? See, unpredictable! Although you’d never say a broken mug had a huge impact on your life; so you blindly overlook the deeper meaning…

You see, while your life seems to be going on track, regardless of the mug example, somewhere else in this big wide world lies a broken little girl on a hospital bed.

And she’s dying.

Her father has never felt more fear in his life than he is feeling right now. Her mother lies in a bed beside her baby sister, both completely oblivious to the tragedy that was about to slice their perfect little family into two broken halves… Just like the mug that, all the while this is happening, you are cleaning up off your kitchen floor and blatantly, narrow-mindedly classifying that perfect example of life’s instabilities to be ‘one of those things’.

The End
