Jake splashed cold water in his face. He wiped it away with the bright bleached white hand towel. His eyes were bloodshot. How could he forget that one night? She had visited him, but it just wasn't the same. She was different, as if she was hiding something.
He saw her blood spray the pavement...what kind of horrifying game were they playing? Why couldn't she let him swoop in and sweep her off of her feet and get her out of this horrible profession and make her feel safe and sound.
But she wouldn't allow that. He was having trouble contemplating this, so she excused herself to powder her nose. He should of stepped up and took her away from the ghoulish creatures thriving off of her service, but all he did was down another scotch. Time clicked away and he finally stood up and made his way to the rest room. He looked around and made sure no one was watching as he slipped into the women's rest room.
"Mary Jane?" He asked as he walked into the fancy bathroom.
He immediately stopped in his tracks as he observed the messy message on the bathroom mirror.
"JAKE YOU HAVE TO FIND OUT THE GAME WE WERE PLAYING. ITS THE ONLY WAY...I'LL BE AROUND BUT YOU'LL NEVER FIND ME. AND DON'T BOTHER LOOKING FOR ME."
He suddenly was angry. He punched the mirror causing it to crack making her message even more threatening and confusing.
He left the room and walked back to the table and asked for some shots. As the waiter was leaving, Jake grabbed his coat and informed him to keep them coming.
After at least two solid hours of drinking, Jake paid the bill and stumbled out into the street finally realizing his knuckles were shiny and a little raw from hitting the mirror. He smiled to himself as he shuffled down the street and decided he had better get to the bottom of this mystery and fast.
