"Heyyy." Robin smiled at me. "More bird watching tonight?"
I nodded, preoccupied with the precise wording of the last paragraph of a poor sales report.
"I know a great spot to find a real rare bird. She's definitely worth your attention tonight." She wrote down an address for me. "Ever seen a sweet-breasted robin?" The wink in her voice was worth a break.
That night, in the darkness of Robin's apartment, I heard a terrifying wail out in the town. She told me not to worry about it. "Bad neighbourhood."
I shivered a dozen times remembering it before I drifted into uneasy sleep.
