When I walked up the stairs to her porch, I smelled something foul through the screen door. I just came in, and saw Dani stirring something on the stove.
"What's cooking?" I nearly gagged.
"The Elixir," she muttered.
"Elixir? For what?"
"Elixir... so I can stay alive."
I frowned. "Dani, that's not fair."
"Well, there are some advantages to being a witch."
"Do you have a spellbook or something?"
"Yeah, right here." She handed me a giant book, which I started looking though. Finally I found the explanation for The Elixir she was talking about. It read:
The Elixir is a very difficult potion to make and master. It gives years back to the being who drinks it, but must steal years from another being to balance. The Elixir is highly discouraged as it steals from other people's lives.
I looked up at Dani as I finished reading. "Dani... Why are you doing this?"
"I don't want to die."
"You're stealing life from other people!"
She didn't answer.
"Don't you think that's wrong?" I pressed.
"Of course it's wrong, it's just..."
She looked up from her stirring and said. "It's just that I'm scared."
