Prologue

Let me introduce myself formally. I am Beau, a Temporary Personal Companion For Youth (TPC, otherwise known as an imaginary friend) of the The Temporary Personal Companions For Youth Club, Northern Hemisphere.

I have been trained since my creation to be a TPC, and have so far provided my services to Marcus Bedford, Arilda Novak, Raj Kirpalani, Prince William Windsor, and Margot Luella Aberfield.

We TPCs are immortal, living on from the moment we are created. And I say created, not born, for we do not have mothers and fathers as you do. We are instead assigned clans of four to five, two elders and the others either trainees or first rank practitioners. Just like a family. I am assigned to clan number 358 with elders, Camden and Josephine and my friend and fellow first rank practitioner, Raeanne. We are a happy little "family".

You ask why we do it? Why do we cause trouble for the parents who try so hard to detach us from their children who've forgotten that one of us were their "imaginary friend" as well?

Firstly, we live by the philosophy that no child should ever be lonely. That every girl or boy should have someone to talk to freely and them not being able to see us, except for the image they make in their head, makes it easier for them to confide in us. Our job is to advise them, help them with the difficulties of growing up and teach them about the unpredictability of life and how to live it to the fullest. We are merely providing a noble service, appreciated by the youth of this world. Although we are eventually forgotten, our new clients bring us back the joy of it all.

We adore our little human friends. To see their happy smiles when we "talk" to them is a daily reward and no wake up call is sweeter than the voices of the children we help.

I am a proud TPC and a special one too because I was not forgotten.
