"Our flight leaves tomorrow at 9 AM," their father told them. "We're taking my private plane out. We'll be there for a week. You might want to start packing now."
Sofie exchanged an excited look with her brother before turning and running through the open doorway. She hurried up the stairs with Titus right behind her. When they reached the hallway, they headed opposite directions, towards their bedrooms.
"Don't forget to bring your toothbrush!" Dad called after them.
She grabbed her suitcase from under her bed and opened it.
"I can't believe we're going to Bermuda," she told herself as she pulled shirts from their hangers and threw them into the suitcase.
Their family hadn't taken any big vacations since mom passed away. She was always the one who planned the trips.
She tried to push that thought away and focus on the good things, but she had trouble doing so. As she folded a pair of pants and set them in the suitcase, a tear slid down her cheek.
