It's a Lie.
They say you should follow your dreams, no matter what.
Alice thought it was a stupid phrase of nonsense. It was not the least bit true, no. A big fat stupid harsh horrid LIE.
It wasn't like she didn't try. No, the opposite to that. She tried so hard. But she knew. By now. LIE!
Lie lie lie. That's what it was. Alice wanted to...she dreamed of...well, she didn't know. She did not have the faintest idea. That was what she tried to do. But nothing AT ALL came. She couldn't to much in any school subject at all. She couldn't do sport. Couldn't afford to play an instrument. Wasn't paticurlarly pretty. When it came to anything on stage she got so nervous she was nearly sick.
No-one liked her anyway. Only yesterday Summer had hacked off her plait with left-handed scissors during Maths. Her long, glossy brunnette ponytail. Alice stroked the wonky ends of her now cropped hair. She was just a boring, ugly, unpopular girl. Now she was a a boring, ugly, unpopular girl with a lot less hair.
Her Mum gave her support for the last thirteen years. LIAR! Alice stood up and kicked the post of her bed till Mum asked what the racket was.
Alice stopped. She sank down again. Always follow your dreams, no matter what. Maybe...just maybe...if she concentrated hard enough...if she said every word aloud...or wrote them...the would stop being a lie?
Always.
Follow.
Your.
Dreams.
NO.
MATTER.
WHAT!
NO MATTER WHAT! That was it. Now, Alice told herself, you need to work on what you want to follow.
To be better at school. She could try more. Same with sports. She could save up for lessons on an instrument or anything else. She wasn't that bad looking. She could grow her hair. And overcome stage fright.
That sounded like a lot. Alice wavered. The she remembered the three words.
Ok, she wasn't very far on the dream trail, but further than ever before.
