A teaser for my new book.
The door opened and I was confronted by a chiseled chest, bare and smooth in the dim light. I pulled my gaze to his with heat rising in my cheeks. Blue eyes stared intelligently at me with a mischievous twinkle flashing across.
"Sorry, am I interrupting something?"
I was afraid I'd knocked in the middle of some erotic moment - I knew his reputation.
"Not at all." His voice was rough and deep; somehow it seemed to travel through the air and brush across my skin with a seductive warmth. "How can I help you?"
My grip tightened on the trolley. Why was I here again? I had lost my thoughts as soon as he spoke, no, as soon as he opened the door. The trolley moved under all the pressure I was putting on it and I stumbled. He caught my arm, steadying me.
"Are you alright?"
He sounded genuinely concerned and continued to gaze at me until I nodded. He made sure I was steady and then released my arm. I noticed my arm tingled from his touch.
"Sorry. I guess-" I thought hastily for an excuse that didn't involve how much his eyes made me melt. "-I guess I shouldn't have skipped lunch." It wasn't a lie but it fel lame as it left my mouth.
"That might have something to do with it. Would you like to sit down? I have food or a glass of water-?"
"Oh no, really, I'm fine. I just need to put these fresh towels in your room and I can go home."
"Well then there's no rush. Please, join me for a bite to eat."
I started to shake my head but he took the fresh towels from my cart and disappeared in to his room. He returned a few minutes later with a small smirk on his face.
"I'm holding the towels ransom until you've eaten. Fresh and used. After you." He stepped to the side gesturing for me to enter. He was charming but I couldn't do it could I? I knew his reputation from school, let alone what the gossip magazines the guests left out said. Did he really think he was going to get anywhere with me? Did he even remember me? Probably not. I'd been very much under his radar then as a chubby shy girl with not many friends. He hadn't known who I was then so why would he now?
