It's all going wrong. I was right, Samuel is untrustworthy, and this time Ellie May's noticed. Her mum's ill, like Dad. I don't think it'll get as bad as Dad's did, but I don't want her getting hurt.
Matthew hasn't asked me out yet. I'm starting to think he never will. Maybe Ellie May got it wrong. There's still a chance, though. It just isn't a very big one. Maybe I'll pluck up the courage to ask him out myself. Like that's ever gonna happen.
The twins had a photo day today. Thankfully, they didn't mess it up. Well, as far as I know they didn't. I'll just have to wait and see when the proofs come.
Anyway, Ellie May's squealing at me now, so I have to go.

"Heidi, Heidi, Heidi!" Ellie May exclaims from where she's sitting on my bed being trusted with my Facebook account.

"What? What? What?" I respond, mimicking her high-pitched tone.

"Looooook!" she points excitedly to the screen of my laptop.

She's signed into my Facebook Chat, where there is one conversation marked 'Matthew Green'. I hurriedly click on it.

Matthew Green Hey =)
Matthew Green Heidi? Are you there?
Heidi Greene  Oh, sorry. It's Ellie May XD
Matthew Green Oh, it doesn't matter then. I'll text her.

I give Ellie May a confused look. "What's it supposed to mean?"

"There is basically a banner across the screen saying 'go and check your mobile, Heidi Greene!'!"

"Oh, of course!" I dash across my room and grab my phone, then rush back and bounce back on the bed next to my best friend.

Ring me.

"Full stop." Ellie May says. "No smiley face."

"What does it mean?" I ask, even though I know we're thinking exactly the same thing.

He wants to ask me out. But why would he? Wouldn't it be better to ask me out in person? Why didn't he just ring me? Maybe he doesn't want to waste his credit because he's running out. Wait, he's on contract, he always has credit. He's going to ask me out. He won't ask me out. It's probably something like he's inviting loads of people to town. Why would he? Crap! It's his birthday tomorrow. I forgot to get him a present. That's what he's doing, he's organising his birthday party. No,his birthday is next week. But he didn't put a smiley face. He just put a full stop. He always puts a smiley face. Always. But why didn't he this time? All right, breathe, breathe.

Contacts - Treacle - Call.

Ring, ring.

"Hello?" His voice is a bit distorted, but it's good enough for me.

I put it on loudspeaker and press a finger to my lips at Ellie May. "Hey, it's Heidi."

Pause. "Oh, hey, Heidi. What's up?"

"Umm... you told me to call?"

Longer pause. "Oh, yeah. I did..."

Awkward silence. My brain is about to explode with possibilities. Ellie May is getting more and more excited. "Well, what did you want to tell me?"

"Actually, I wanted to ask you something..."

"Uhh... I've, um, forgotten what it was. I'll ask at school if I remember."

"Oh, all right then... Bye..."

"Bye..." Click.

RRRGH! He has to be so awkward! Why can't he just ask already?

I decide that I'm going to ask him out myself, tomorrow. Whether I like it or not. I don't care whether it feels awkward, it can't be as awkward as sitting in German with him tomorrow if he doesn't ask.

Ellie May has launched into a speech about what I should do and say and wear tomorrow, and promises that she won't tell Samuel just in case he ruins it.

Uhhnnnhh, it's almost unbearable! Matthew Green, he has to go and make it all awkward.

The End
