"Well, Casey, what are you doing here all alone? A good looking girl like you could run into trouble" Tyson smirked.
"I could ask you the same question" I retorted
"You think I'm good looking?"
"You're not answering my question"
"You're not answering mine!"
He grinned at me and I glared back. Once again I turned and walked away from him. I could hear him following me. I carried on regardless and started to climb down the mountain. My foot missed it's hold and I slipped. Tyson caught my wrist.
"Careful" he warned. I found my footing again and down we went. The ground started to even out so it was more hill than mountain. Tyson walked next to me silently.
"What do you want?" I burst out, exhasperated. He grinned and said "I followed you" without an ounce of shame. Again he grinned.
"I saw you and Summer under the Apple Tree and once you left I got in a boat and followed. Summer told me to keep you safe."
"You know, don't you?" I asked. He pretended to be puzzled, but failed.
"Alright I do! Summer is my Mother." I took a step back, stunned, and my foot went straight down a burrow. I fell back, twisting my ankle. Tyson was next to me before I could blink. He looked at me.
"You sure are taking your job seriously" I said sourly. He smiled his cheeky grin and pulled me up. I stumbled.
"Maybe we should rest" he suggested gently. I gave up and slumped to the floor again, exhausted. He lay down next to me and I could feel him watching me as I slowly fell into a deep slumber.
I woke up sometime mid-morning and Tyson was right beside me. He hadn't left my side.
"How long did I sleep?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.
"The rest of yesterday, all night and most of this morning." He got to his feet briskly, pulled me up and said "Come on, we want to get there before nightfall." We made our way in a comfortable silence occasionally stopping to eat or rest. Just as the sun was setting we came to the edge of a forest. Tyson stopped and said "We sleep here" and abrputly sat down. I looked at him, then at the forest.
"You'll be safe with me" his voice rang with such sincerity, I lay down beside him. It took a while for me to fall asleep, for some reason I was extremely aware of him next to me and his steady breathing. I eventually fell asleep and when I did I dreamed. I dreamed I was in a forest, alone when someone called my name. It was Adrian.
