And so the awaited evening went by. My mom and sisters are already doing the finishing touches on our well-prepared food filled with tender, love, and care. Mom and I loved to cook. So we decided to cook our favorites for this special evening: Baked Salmon topped with A LOT of various cheeses (there is no such thing as TOO MUCH CHEESE), Baked Asparagus topped with olive oil, salt & pepper, and parmesan, Grilled rib-eye steak, and a rice pilaf. And for dessert, oh sweet dessert, mom's special Tiramisu Meltdown Cake.
Wow. These people really are special.
"Leena! Come down already! We need your help.", mom shouted.
"Almost ready mom!" I shouted as I kept fixing my red skater dress. Yup, this was totally mom's idea. I wouldn't mind wearing a dress on occasions like this but, red? BRIGHT RED. After doing millions of different hair styles with my thick curly hair, I just decided to let it stay on a pony tail. I hurriedly slipped on my brown leather flats and went straight down to the kitchen to offer some help.
"Oh no no, you're helping me welcome our guests outside", dad insisted.
Oh, sure, yeah. I'm great at doing that. -_-
As my dad and I opened our front door, Uncle Joe's black Toyota Fortuner went inside our driveway. Great timing, though.
Uncle Joe went out of the front passenger's seat waving at the two of us. Hmm, that's weird, he wasn't the one driving?
"Hey there guys! Hi Leena!", Uncle Joe shouted. I waved and smiled politely while standing on our deck.
"Leena, I'd like you to meet your Aunt Manna, and Cris, my eldest daughter."
"Oh hi! Nice to finally meet you." I handed out my hand for a nice friendly hand shake.
"And this is Marion, the youngest, he---"
Youch! I screamed as I felt a tight a squeeze on my waist. Marion, who was very full of energy, was hugging and squeezing me to death. Oh well, he was a really cute little chubby kid.
"...WOW. He's a hugger," I said gasping for air, bearing the pain of his oh-so-wonderful power hug.
"Oh, sorry 'bout that", a cool and deep guy's voice said. As I turned to face him, he was holding out the car keys, pressed a button and their car immediately lighted up and made a short beep. Wow, he can drive.
"And this is my son Jeff," Uncle Joe excitedly said.
"Oh, hi there. I'm, uh, Leena," I said shyly, handing out my hand. "Okay come on inside, dinner's ready!"
I led them into the kitchen while Uncle Joe and my dad were still talking outside. Those two never stop talking.
"Mom! Here they are," my mom looked at my wide open eyes and big smile, and suddenly realized that behind me were people.
"OH! Hi, finally nice to meet you!" Mom shook hands and kissed cheeks with Aunt Manna, Cris, Jeff, and Marion. Ha! I remembered all of their names.
My two sisters did the same thing, and the next thing you know we were already starting to take our seats on the dinner table.
Dad and Uncle Joe were seated together, and so was my mom and Aunt Manna. My two sisters, Mary and Mariel obviously chatted with Cris, so that means I was left with Marion and Jeff. Yep, I was seated between them. Love it.
As we stuffed ourselves with scrumptious food, I tried to have little conversations with Jeff. To be honest he didn't look that easy to talk to. He was the type of fit-looking guy who joined the school's basketball team, he looked like a really cool kid dressed in a dark blue Lacoste polo, jeans, and some killer Nike shoes. Okay, yeah, he looks good.
"So, what course are you taking up right now?", my heart was beating frantically and my hands were sweating. Here we go.
"Oh no no. I'm not yet in college, just spending my last few months in high school," he said with a big smile. Great, he's laughing at me. "Do I really look like a college guy?"
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. No! It's just that... uhm, well actually, yeah you look like one."
"Wow, i'll take that as a compliment", he looked at me after taking a bite of the Baked Salmon that I made, with a huge grin on his face.
God, please do not make my cheeks red. PLEASE.
"How 'bout you? Maybe you're the one in college", Jeff said, still with a grin on his face.
"Ha-ha, no. I'm actually younger than you, you know. Sophomore."
"Really now? You don't look like one. You actually look good in that dress", he said eyeing my bright cherry red dress that my mom bought me. OH MY, please stop.
"Okay, every one ready for dessert?", we heard mom's voice which thankfully, distracted our awkward conversation, "Leena, could you please get it inside the refrigerator?"
I walked towards the fridge and as I opened the door, I saw this mouth-watering, chocolatey, Tiramisu cake. Carefully taking it out of the fridge, I stepped a few steps backward and then, BAM. I bumped into something.
... oh no, wait. I bumped into someone.
"Geez! What the hell, I almost dropped the cake!" I said.
"Hahahaha! I'm really sorry. I'm sorry. It's just that I volunteered to help you. Your mom was asking your dad to do it, but I said that I'll help you instead.", Jeff said in a very cool voice.
"Oh", I said calmly, taking my time to breathe normally again.
"Here, let me." Jeff took the cake in my arms, smiled, and went back to the dining room.
And here I was, standing inside the kitchen. Thinking about what the hell just happened. Then I gained consciousness again and followed him back.
As I sat down, Jeff immediately grabbed my plate and gave me a piece of slice.
"I'm really sorry. Here, one BIG slice for you."
"You really emphasized on the word BIG, huh?"
He smiled. DAMN IT Jeff, stop giving me that fugging handsome smile.
"So, really, how old are you?", I asked him.
"I'm only 16, 4th year high school, not college."
I smirked at him. OKAY. Stop rubbing it on my face.
Jeff, Marion, and I kept joking around with each other, and before we knew it, it was already 10 pm. They started saying their goodbyes, and Marion, hugged me again. I hugged him back. I kissed Aunt Manna and hugged Uncle Joe. I gave a friendly hug to Cris, whom I didn't get the chance to talk to that much since my sisters were all around her, and lastly, Jeff, I gave him a friendly hug too.
"Hey, it was nice meeting you. Really", he said to me, "see you tomorrow."
Wait. What. "What??", I asked him immediately.
"Yes, Leena, you and your father are going to meet us tomorrow! We're gonna teach you how to shoot!", Uncle Joe excitedly said.
"Shoot? Like, gun shoot?" Yep, I heard Uncle Joe was an expert at gun shooting, and of course, so was his son.
"YUP!", Jeff said to me with a wide smile on his face. WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT THAT SMILE.
"...hah... okay then," I said as I waved at them while they were already riding their SUV.
And then I immediately faced dad.
"SURPRISE!", dad said.
And I just gave him one of my fierce, scary-looking face. What the hell was he thinking?!
