Stay Awake

Roll over …  I’m having a bad dream

Wake up in cold sweats wanting to scream

Stay awake and lose visions from the past

Get rid of this dream forever, at last.

Roles have reversed, bad things are happening to me

I close my eyes and the picture is so clear to see

I can’t sleep and my eyes are starting to go black

My chest is caving in and my hearts under attack

Storm coming in from the mountain top

I can’t take anymore and I need it to stop

Lightening strikes from where it once had been paused

My thoughts before sleeping are likely the cause.

So I lay, toss and turn here

As my  thoughts open the door

I must go to sleep now

I can’t stay awake anymore
