Thorn just about died of fright when he peered around the door. Skittering backwards, eyes wide and heart thumping like a crazed bird he gaped at the scene inside. Then, his voice deep and threatening, he growled:
The girl stepped out from behind the door, laughing like a maniac.
"Ha ha, happy birthday Thorn." she gasped, barely supressing the giggles that kept sliding into her voice. This control did not last for long however and she soon collapsed helplessly in fits of hysterics while the nonplussed Thorn stood over her, one eyebrow raised and looking distinctly confused.
"Your... your face!" she cackled, tears streaming down her flushed cheeks, "You should have seen the look on your face! I've never seen anything like it in my life!"
With that, she dissolved into laughter again. Thorn rolled his eyes, typical Kamika to make such a big deal about this. Honestly it was just another birthday? He'd already had 99 of the accursed things and was still young for an elf. Well, he presumed he was an elf anyway, even if he did look a little different from his family. If not, then he was one bizarre human. But what difference did it make, he was still a mere 100 years old.
And, unfortunately, still younger than Kamika.
"Get up you brownie-blasted ninny," Thorn groaned, grabbing her wrist and pulling her to her feet, "Honestly you really do everything in your power to complicate matters don't you?" He sighed, but his serious tone was denied by the grin beginning to creep over his face, "But I have to hand it to you, you certainly know how to organise surprises. So then, let's celebrate!"
And so, all thoughts of worry momentarily dispelled from his mind, Thorn followed his friend into the Oak amidst the crowds of his friends and family.
But not for long...
