A few months had passed since Nathan and I had been dating, and I was becoming a pro at hiding the bruises from everyone. I wanted to leave him, but I stilled loved him so much. With the early opening of the Casino next week he was under a lot of pressure, and I didn't want to make him angry. He had convinced me to move in with him, and even tried to make me quit school.
"No wife of mine will work once the children," I mimicked his voice softly to myself.
He had popped the question a few times, but I told him I wasn't ready. He was willing to wait for me, at least that's what he kept saying. Nathan hated rejection, and each time I feared he would slap me again. I never even agreed on the children part either, though I did want two.
He always apologized when it happened, and usually came home with a gift in hand. Maybe some of it was my fault, maybe I questioned him to much. He was gone a lot with the construction, and he made it clear he wanted me no where near that place until it was finished. He said it was for my own safety, but I felt like he was hiding something. I was to scared to test my theory, so I just let it build inside.
I hated keeping all this from mom, but I didn't want her to worry. She had met someone, and they seemed happy together. The last thing I needed was to ruin her change at happiness, even if it may be dangerous.
I didn't see her much, except on our Sunday's which was still tradition of spending the day together. Nathan's jealousy had tried to take that away from me to, but I convinced him otherwise. My consequence was having to text him every time we left the house, and he check my phone every night.
I had no intention on cheating, but he was convinced that all the guys wanted to steal me away. He had better start treating me with more respect, or it would become more then a thought.
I took a deep breath as I grabbed my car keys for work. It was Friday thank god and Cindy was suppose to go shopping with me after work.
"Have a nice day," I called to Nathan as I started to leave.
"Make sure you behave with Cindy," he snapped.
I rolled my eyes once I was out of his line of view. He was not to excited about the shopping trip, but she was the only friend he trusted me with.
"No kiss this morning?" he asked harshly.
I walked over and leaned in for a kiss, but he pulled me in tighter.
"Remember who you belong to," he whispered then let go and went back to the kitchen to drink his coffee.
When I got to work Cindy was in a cheery mood, she spent her down time bragging about Jared. The guy she had been dating for the last two months. In between that she described all the things she wanted to buy tonight. I wanted to tell her about Nathan, I needed to tell someone. Just then my phone buzzed and it was Nathan.
Nathan: Make it to work beautiful?
Mandy: Yes babe I am here
Nathan: I'm really sorry about last night sweetheart, I'm under so much stress
Mandy: I know honey
Nathan: I love you
Mandy: love you too
I pushed my phone back into my pocket and got back to work. If I didn't respond right away it made him suspicious, and would only cause an argument later. Nathan could be sweet when he wanted to, and as long as I did what he wanted. The physical violence had only started a few weeks ago when I moved in with him.
The day was finally over and I was looking forward to shopping with Cindy. As we walked out to the parking lot I noticed Nathan leaning against my car.
"I was in the neighborhood and I missed my baby," he said in his coy voice.
"AWWW how sweet," Cindy cooed.
"We were just about to go to the mall in Jacksonville," I reminded him
"I know but I wanted to let you know I wont be home tonight so why don't you have Cindy sleep over," He insisted.
What was he up to, he never gave me this much room to wander. As happy as I was , it also made me think he was doing something he wasn't suppose to be doing.
"Where will you be?" I asked.
Remembering Cindy was still there he replied politely, " I have some business to take care of in Kansas city."
"Again? That's the third time this month," I was treading on hot water with that remark.
He gave me a scolding look, " I will see you in the morning."
He left Cindy and I in the parking lot, and I watched him drive his new truck down the road. He had given his mom his car so she had a way around.
Cindy interrupted my thoughts, "Is everything OK with you to?"
"Yes were great, " I smiled. "Now lets get to the mall before all the good items are gone."
Cindy didn't think twice about that statement and jumped in my new SUV that Nathan bought me.
