Promise- ElodieMature

Calum grabbed Stone and hauled him against the wall but Calum forgot that Stone was capable of way more than I was. Stone pulled a fire knife out of his pocket and was somehow right next to Calum. Calum, who was surprised, got a fire knife up against his throat, dropped to the floor and Stone let him go.

“What the hell, Elodie? I’m blaming this mental case on YOU.” Stone yelled. “Why do you always bring the mental cases to me? Why the hell did you jump this guy here? Is he an ender? Is he-

“Calm down, Stone! He’s human, as far as I know. Do you know his grandfather?” I asked insistently. Stone shrugged.

“Logan Freeman,” Calum spat. Stone’s face lit up and then he got down and helped Calum up. Once he did, Calum looked at him, hate in his eyes. “He died, ten years ago. We jumped back and he told me to tell you something. But he didn’t say what.”

Stone’s face now dropped and I shook my head, confused.

“Logan was an ender insider. His mother was a jumper, but his father was human- wait- that means, Calum, that you are one of us. You are partly a time jumper. But because you aren’t a full jumper, like your grandfather and any of your family descending from him- you can’t jump.”

Calum stared at us in awe.

“Do I get a say in this?” Calum asked.

“Yes, of course!” I said at the same time as Stone said,

“No, none of us do.” I gave him a look and Calum inhaled and then exhaled.

“Thank you, Elodie,” He said.

I nodded at him and we all fell silent for a few minutes. That was partly because every time Stone opened his mouth, I shut him up with just a look.

“Whatever this is, whatever this whole war is. I want in. Whatever this thing is, I’m part of it now, whether you want me in it or not. I want in.”

“This isn’t some game, kid.” Stone told him. I opened my mouth, “Shut it, Elodie- I have to say this. If you really want in, you have to promise to never betray us to anyone, to never ever leave our side during a fight and you have to prove to us that you are worth it.”

Calum didn’t even blink; he solemnly nodded at me and then turned his attention back to Stone. He held out his hand and Stone shook it.

“I promise.”
