A few minutes before

The last bell rang and the stamped began “Hey Cyprus, come on we don’t want to get stuck in the crowd” Luke took my arm and shoved ahead with Carson not far behind us. Finally we exited out into the courtyard; I had to squint my eyes to see clearly. Luke and Carson had already released me and ran over to the bike rack when my eyes adjusted to the bright sun outside. I started to walk over when a tall, tough, and mean looking guy walked over to them. A few words were said and the guy grabbed Carson by the front of his shirt and lifted him off the ground. Out of nowhere a group of other guys, about a dozen or so, came waltzing in to surround the bigger guy, who apparently was the leader.

None of them, however looked very nice; the leader had bruises and cuts on his arms and face that somehow made him look older than he actually was. I was guessing he was around our age, then too, him wearing the same school uniform as the other students was kind of a giveaway. I walked closer to the group of delinquents that surrounded my new friends and heard Carson’s voice, “Hey Anderson, haven’t seen you in a while; oh yeah I’m sorry for what happened last time.” I tried to push myself up but I couldn’t see.  “You will pay….” The guy brought his fist back in order to slam into Carson’s face; in the same time I slipped passed the group all the way to where the big guy was. I heaved a loud sigh “ok that’s quite enough for today.” My voice startled those around me, even Carson who had apparently not seen me slide through.

“Hey, cutie, what’s your name. Oh or are you his little girlfriend, so cute trying to save him from the big mean guy.”  I stared up at him. I hardened my voice and said something I knew would catch him off guard. “Stop with the cutesy %%$%, and put him down before I kick your ass.” He looked at me, actually they all looked at me including Carson and Luke. Their expressions were so strange it became funny. “How cute, Hey Carson, how did you manage to get a feisty girl like this one” I made direct eye contact and repeated myself. “Put him down or I’ll break your arm.” He rolled his eyes and laughed like it was some kind of joke. As for me I was completely serious

I looked over at Luke and motioned him to get both bikes and to slip outside the school gate and wait on the other side of the wall. Just as he vanished around the corner I looked at Carson and said “Run” I reached up and grabbed Anderson’s wrist and jerked it out straight and with a quick motion rammed my palm up into the back of his elbow making a sickening crack as it gave way to the force that I had implied. Anderson howled ad dropped Carson immediately grabbing his broken arm. I simply said “Told ya so.” Carson hit the ground running and was gone before I knew it. I grabbed a hold of my bag and threw it over the wall where I thought they would be.  I spotted the P.E storage shed an ran towards it. I jumped up on top of the rack, then to the top of the shed. As you can possibly imagine I jumped up and over the brick wall. Even in the situation that I was now in, the breeze felt really good against my face.
