HeartbeatenMature

On the third month, he arrived at the Asylum with a cab on her birthday. With balloons, and a teddy bear, Silas was ready to finally see her.

It was Anne's birthday. She was eighteen. Free.

Finally free.

The money on the meter reached the amount he had in his pocket four hours after he arrived. So he paid the man and waited for her without the car.

Another three hours later, the balloons had deflated. His arms held the bear close and he had had enough.

Silas entered, the Orderlies were waiting for him.

"Silas."

"What? What!? Where's Anne!?"

"She's not here."

"What?!"

The two orderlies looked at each other. "She left yesterday."

"That's not possible. Her birthday is today. I remembered!"

The head nurse approached him, "You'd better leave Silas."
"Where is she?"

The nurse was always kind to the two.

She couldn't lie. She was always so honest.
"She was sent to the Fairwater Hospital, Silas. She attacked an orderly when they tried to keep her from a visitor…and…she's been ordered to undergo a prefrontal lobotomy… It was scheduled for today…"

His heart stopped.

Then thumped loud.

"She's…."

"She's not the same girl anymore, Silas…I'm so sorry."

"BUT SHE WASN'T SICK!"

"She had a mental trauma. It lead her to Hysteria…and she attacked a guard."

"SHE LOVED ME! WHY WOULDN'T SHE FIGHT!?"

He fell to his knees. "Oh god…please no…"

"Silas."

"DON'T TOUCH ME!"

"I didn't…."

He was feverish.

The orderlies took his arms and began to move him. When one noticed the reddening flesh… Silas's rage grew.

His heart sounded like the sound of the hammer tapping the lobotomy tools.
