I ran for as long as I could. Given my new strength and stamina, that was a long way. I wasn't thinking where I was going, the wolf part of me seemed to navigate herself through the trees and streams. I made sure to steer clear of roads and people, as somewhere in my brain I remembered no one knew I was a Demon; and it should stay that way.
I couldn't tell if I was behaving irrationally or not. Was I? Jax was my friend. But not if he killed those people, not if he led danger into where I lived, where my friends and family lived. I remembered Mrs Voss telling us that Shadow Shifters moved in groups, Jax could have led more here.
I ran until I was so exhausted that I collapsed in a heap on the floor and lay there, watching the stars shift in the sky. I didn't know if Jax had tried to follow me, but if he had, he hadn't succeeded. After a while I fell asleep.
I don't know how long I was out for, but when I awoke again, it was morning and I was back in my human form. I stood up shakily, remembering what had happened las night. Perhaps i should have stayed...
No. I can't think about that right now, I've got to concentrate on getting home. Where am I? I have no relocation of how far I ran last night, and to be honest, I didn't really care. I just wanted to get away. These woods are unfamiliar. I decided to walk in one specific direction, as it stands to reason that I should come across something sooner or later.
I walked for about an hour. I reckoned I shifted several times in and out, and I didn't feel controlled enough to shift now. I still had to learn, and if Jax wasn't going to help me, as I doubted he would...
A screech brought me back from my thoughts, and I looked up. Nothing. Perhaps I was imagining things.
A few seconds later, I felt the air move and huge wings hit the side of my head. I jumped backwards, and the hawk proceeded to settle in a tree near me.
My heart was still beating fast. "Stupid bird." I muttered, then I looked at it again. This wasn't any hawk, I knew this bird. "Dario?"
"Aria, what are you doing here?" Said a voice behind me. I turned, to see Mrs Voss leaning against a tree, watching me with her piercing grey eyes.
