"Wait, so tell me again why you were off?" Annora quizzes me again as we walk to animal studies.
"Stomach bug, it's gone now okay? Trust me, I'm fine."
She glances at me out of the corner of her eye, "So it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact Jax was also gone for the same amount of time?" I almost stopped walking, but managed to sound surprised instead of guilty.
"Jax was gone?"
"Yup, you sure you didn't know that?" She started to smile.
"Are you accusing me of something? Because I might just have to kill you if you are." She laughed.
"Okay maybe I'm being paranoid about you. But that's my job as chief girlfriend." She nudged me. "So are you going to tell me where you got that new necklace, or is that a secret as well?"
My hand moved to the base of my throat, where the pendant rested. "This? It was in my mum's jewellery box." When did I get so good at lying?
"Oh, it's pretty though." She commented. We walked to animal studies in silence.
After the bell went for lunch, we were walking back to our homeroom, when Annora called out: "There's Leo, I need to ask him- What the heck is going on over there?" She began running, and I looked over to see a group of people stood in a cluster, shouts erupting.
Joining Annora, I pushed forwards through the crowd to see. When I pushed through I saw a fight was happening, a boy called Leroy from the third year was snarling and shoving his friends out the way to get to someone who was picking themselves up off the ground. Leroy had serious anger issues, and had become a bull on a number of occasions when fighting was involved. The other boy hauled himself up and moved sideways, but Leroy launched forwards and shoved him down. "I'll teach you to threaten me, you pathetic second year!"
"I told you! I didn't do it!" Spat the other boy, and my heart contracted. He stood up, and pushed his hair back. Isaac. His arm was bleeding, and he had a cut on his face.
I shoved my way through, pushing people aside to stand by Isaac. "What's going on?! What the hell are you doing?" I shouted, I wasn't sure who at.
"After I'm done with your boyfriend, tell him not to trash my stuff like that again, or he'll be in for it!" Leroy moved forwards, but I blocked his path to Isaac.
"Leave him alone! If he said he didn't do whatever you're accusing him of, then he didn't!" Leroy's eyes zeroed in on me, and he spat.
"Fine, if I have to hit you first, I will." He launched forwards, but before I could even react someone had slammed Leroy backwards, into the wall of the Black Magic building. He was making a coughing sound, and I soon realised why.
Jax had his hand on Leroys's throat and his face was inches from Leroy's. "Leave them alone. You hear me?" He let go, and Leroy staggered to the side, before pulling himself and glaring furiously at Jax.
"You son of a- I'll shift, and I'll kill you." He began to shake, but before he could do anything, a sharp voice rang out.
"You will do nothing of the sort." Dario soared at Leroy, who dodged, and Mrs Voss came striding into the circle. "Leroy, Jax and Isaac, you will all report straight to-" She never finished her sentence. A piercing, blood-chilling scream echoed out across the courtyard. The rest of the school stopped, and the crowd parted to see Hazel Meyers, a first year, come running into the courtyard. Tears were pouring down her cheeks, and she was trying not to hyperventilate.
"By the woods... The first year... Covered in blood. Shadow Shifter killed him. He's dead."
